They also have/suffer from clearcoat failures as well. My son's 2005 (2.7 SR5 manual/AC/LB) New frame, no accidents or body rust) ) started to fail about 3 years ago on the roof at two spots approx where the map lights are. It is slowly spreading to either side and the back of the roof. It was fine when he purchased it. (approx five years ago with 149k on it.) The color is black metallic and it looks like the hood will be next. The issue has spread forward towards the windshield and back towards the rear of the cab. Current mileage is around 240k. It's really a shame as the paint on the rest of the truck looks really nice for it's age.

I think the issue is many owners are perfectly happy with their current tacomas and many of not most are paid off by now. Trading up or selling means paying the premium for a truck that's only arguably better, it's not like Toyota fixed a bunch of issues with the 3rd gen, or we can now take it somewhere I couldn't take the 1st or 2nd gen. Mileage is about the same, despite the extra HP it's not appreciably faster or more powerful. Reducing frame rust was the biggest improvement IMO for the 3rd gen vehicles aside from the convenience updates. Many current owners know this and shy away from the added expense of a trade up when they know most of the changes are superficial compared to the Tacoma they are driving now. In my case I'm not knocking 3rd gens at all, they are nice and I wouldn't mind having one but I don't want to drop the premium needed to get a new one with the same packages as I have now. One must also consider the typical Toyota owner also, many lean towards the sensible side which is why they own a Toyota, they tend to buy the brand for it's reliability and longevity so they tend to keep it longer than many other pickups which lowers availability and increases the resale value, esp in the low mileage versions.

Agreed. After owning my brand new 1992 Toyota Truck for 14 years I fit that profile. Despite the 3.0 and head gaskets twice. I loved that truck. Never left me stranded. Did everything we needed for a young couple exploring the PNW, Yukon and Alaska. The truck overall, the 4x4 system and 5 spd trans was awesome. Had to sell it because our first child came along. Could not afford a 4 door Tacoma at that time to accommodate a new family. So it was a 3 year old lease return Pathfinder for 14 years. Had to replace that at some point so my wife and I were really looking to get back into a Toyota truck again. Wanted a good used 2nd gen. Started casually looking in 2017. Watched used prices steadily increase to the point where in the fall of 2020 we decided to buy new as most used, including 2nd gens were almost as much as new with zero miles. So happy to be back in a Toyota Truck again. Yes, plan to keep for the long haul.

My 2010 is complicated enough to suit me.

I don’t want a truck with every crazy option.

I really wish I would have kept my 99 single cab.:mad::mad:

Only thing I would add is don't trust any of the well-known, on-line appraisal tools to give you an honest value of your truck. They all seem to have merged into one big conglomerate that all lead you back to the big nationwide super dealers with instant offers on your car and same-day cash and pickup. You pay for the convenience. The only good thing to come out of this is it gives the dealers some strong competition for your car and financing.

If you want an honest trade in appraisal for your car, call your local banks or credit union: Especially if they already have the note on your car with a current loan on it.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
I have a 2nd gen I'm about to sell. I drove it off the lot. Never been in an accident and has been loved, and loved, and loved.... I just need someone to continue to respect Clutch.

Because it's an 07 it lacks all the safety shit.

But has rci sliders, g3 rims/wheels/2021 OR shocks

    14k 136k miles

My wife and I bought this truck right out of college. It was amazing. I think we made our first kid in it's bed. So it's extra.
You have to return a special fly my dad tied.... if you find it

At least your paint stays on the truck. I wish I had never bought a super white truck.

I purchased my truck used to help support my wifes craft fair business and said I wanted a 4x4 for fun stuff. But now with a kid I wish I had the smarts to pickup a 4Runner and just rent a small trailer as needed. Paid off mod is the best mod though

It must be a killer for you to see/come across a truck like mine (Super White as well) with no signs of any paint peeling. It would sure make me crazy.

It looks like they may be finally ready to add the Tacoma to the long list of other Super White cars for resolution. It's incredible that it went along for so many years without identifying and resolving the root cause.

Have you opened a case with Toyota?

Ive read a lot of you guys comments. I bought my 2015 Limited with 176,600miles on it. Now, has this. Runs like a scalded dog. Find one well maintained. Maintain it in return and it will take care of you. I sometimes drive like a maniac since I'm 24. I get a little carried away. I maintain mine religiously and has never left me stranded. Even when we got a good snow in my area and i took my truck out and did donuts. Held the truck at 5 grand in first gear for at least 10min. Then, drove it home.

Redlining it for 10 mins while doing donuts is a good way to overheat the engine and trans, but you do you man.

One of my favourite things about these trucks is how hard you need to push them before they redline.
