Good decision. Going from a full size to a mid size is not for everyone. If you weren't fundamentally happy it would be burning you continuously. Enjoy your new Ram. From what I hear it's one of the cushiest riding full size trucks.

Yeah I've always wanted a Tacoma but the numbers never really worked out and once I bought my first Ram in 2014, I really stopped looking at anything else because I was perfectly happy with it. I only traded up to a 2018, then again to a 2022 Ram because of massive deals being given at those times. I thought I'd give the Tacoma a go since I've always wanted one and was finally in a position after my gf wrote my 2022 off.
I really want to like it. I've even tried to convince myself that I like it, but I'm just not happy with it. I'm not really an off-road guy, more of a street truck preference and the Rams I've had have always been trouble free. I think if you take are of these trucks they'll take care of you. Likely not as a robust as a Tacoma but should still give me another 200000kms of trouble free driving.

The Tacoma is definitely a different animal. I test drove a few different Rams before going with my Tacoma. I was really close to getting Tundra I just don’t need the size. The Ram is a nice truck and reasonably reliable. Long term is not so great.

What most love about their Tacomas is the size, versatility, reliability, resale value, and rawness. Tune it and run premium fuel she feels much stronger but they are not for everyone.

    interesting, thanks for the update.

still, it's extremely part that you didn't feel any binding while turning with 4x4 active, which still seems like it wasn't working as intended.

Traded my Taco for a Power Wagon. No clue what you mean about the poor performance. I towed w/ my 21 TRD Sport all over without issue. Only upgraded to the Power Wagon for towing capabilities. So happy I did. Not going to shit on the Taco because I loved it and it was perfect - I just out grew it.

Why didn't you get the PW if 4WD performance is such a concern. 6.2 Hemi, 8 speed trans, 4.10 gears, lockers, and sway bar disconnects.

Good for you for recognizing that the Tacoma just wasn't the right vehicle for you, and then trading it for something that suited you better. I hope you enjoy your new RAM.

Yes, Agreed. Some folk come on here and bitterly complain. They never owned one before, drank the taco cool aid, made a big mistake and don't move on. This truck is not for everyone despite the buzz surrounding the truck.

If you're getting your fifth new vehicle since 2014, reliability shouldn't be a concern for you. Hell, you could probably eek two years out of a Chevy. Enjoy your new truck!

Haha yeah, it's usually a new vehicle every 4 years. I drive about 50000 kms a year for work so after 4 years I'm over 200k and start to look for the next rebate, or offer that may be around at the time to upgrade and start new again. I just watch for the best deal and pull the trigger on my own terms knowing I don't NEED a new vehicle per se. I can easily walk away from a dealership if I don't get the deal I want because I'm not desperate. I've gotten some pretty good deals just from the dealers continuing to come back with lower and lower prices because I'm ok to just walk away if its not exactly what I want to pay.
I think I've only done brakes once or twice in the last 10 to 12 years because I'm usually back into something new again. I can budget around a new car payment, but I struggle with the bigger expenses you don't plan for and how older vehicles can start to nickel and dime you to death after a while..
Anyway, good luck to you all. I have no doubt your Tacoma's will last longer than my Ram, but we all work hard for our money and want what we want I guess.
    Cheers.

I take this in to consideration when someone tells me how good their vehicle has been. Personally, I know many that go around touting "I've never done more than tires, brakes, oil changes, and a battery!",,, no shit, cause you trade in for new every 24-48 months, your input doesn't matter to me.
There's no wrong or right, everyone's situation is different, I just don't want input from the guy that trades in, when has to replace the OE battery.
Not directed at OP, I understand he didn’t come on here to tout the Ram.

My experience with the feeling of 4WD engagement. I have an 87 Jeep Cherokee XJ, and I don't feel like it's 4WD is engaged as everyone else is describing. Same for my 22 Taco. I do feel a change in traction on soft road surfaces in both vehicles. I never use 4WD on pavement, even in the rain. I live in the desert, and nothing really happens for me to drive in the snow, like twice a year.

Maybe, I am missing something that everyone else is experiencing...

For me the steering feels *slightly* heavier once the front ADD locks in. Not really noticeable if you're not looking for it, but I check for it when switching and watching the blinking light turn solid.

Same here on the steering feel on my '14. In addition I can hear the front diff engaging: Nice, satisfying old-school: "Thunk" up there, then the "click-click" over there behind the glove box. Transfer case is silent when switched and you're moving; a slight mechanical sound when stopped.

I agree. I understand that people have different wants (which is perfectly fine) but the guy that says his truck has been rock solid in the 4,800 miles he's put on it kinda makes me go :rolleyes:.

Hats off to OP for knowing what he wants and going after it. :hattip:
