And then I usually show up and post this test that found zero decrease in mpg with even an extremely clogged filter.

I'll get the same, "clogged doesn't prove that a slight increase can't" or "2 straws are better than one" argument. Even get the "government funded study, invalidates it".

Results show that clogging the air filter has no significant effect on the fuel economy of the newer vehicles (all fuel injected with closed-loop control and one equipped with MDS). The engine control systems were able to maintain the desired AFR regardless of intake restrictions, and therefore fuel consumption was not increased.

Closed-loop control in modern fuel injected vehicle applications is sophisticated enough to keep a clogged air filter from affecting the vehicle fuel economy.

This is an 8 year old study, but I've also gotten the "this is an 8 year old study" argument like a newer EFI would work worse than old technology.

My idea is to start by reading the thread you just posted in. And its fast. After that there are a few dozen threads to search with the exact same info. It's all faaaaaast.

Edit - I see it's your first post. Welcome. This thread has the info you need.

these trucks like most every other vehicle made, already HAVE a 'cold air intake' in the form of a scoop between the headlight and radiator that feeds a rather large air filter box.

now, if you find yourself regularly driving in extremely dusty conditions, like closely following someone on a desert dirt road, well, keep more distance. there really isn't that much less dust 6' up in the air near your cab roof than there is 3-4 feet off the ground near your grill.

Does anyone have a part number for the AEM? Can’t seem to find it! Maybe just not looking correctly ‍♂️
