    sigh...

Science is literally my job. I know it when I see it.

    Also:
I never said the filters I use were the best
I never said the filters you use are the worst

I agree, confirmation bias is a real thing, and it is rampant here. As I noted in my previous post there is no actual data that proves the filters in question are the best (or worst). The posted article even says that exact thing. And yet people are using it to prove their point. That, my friend, is confirmation bias.

P sure most TW members will not even have their taco's long enough to see the engine blow from using fram filters. The frame will rot out or people will see a new vehicle they want and they'll go onto the next one.

Like Jbrandt said, there may be evidence for the lackluster efficacy of the filters, but where is the actual cognitive "real world" tests of 2 same engines running the same work load with 2 different filters? Where's the actual real world evidence someone's engine will blow from using fram versus oem filters? Anyone can treat their vehicle like shit and strawman a part as the fault; when it in reality is the driver.

There can't be a oil filter thread without bogus internet trashing of Fram filters.

I owned/operated a chain of auto parts stores for 16 years and probably sold several million oil filters between the brands I carried (AC-Delco/Wix/Fram) to repair shops, car dealerships, fleets and DIY'ers.
Fram was my largest seller. We never had issues with any of the three brands.

I've got 414,000 trouble-free miles on my '96 Tacoma 4x4 over 24 years using Fram PH3614 and std Pennzoil 10w-30 motor oil. No engine cover has ever been removed and only burns about 1/4 qt of quart oil in 5000 miles.

The below Wheel Horse is 33 years old and nothing but Fram oil filters have ever been used. God know how many HARD Hours it has on it's issue-free engine in over 33 years.

My experience has though me that using the proper oil changed at the proper intervals is really what's important.

Orange can of doom never had issue one in 10's of hundreds of thousands miles. Little factoid Fram is the #1 selling oil filter nationwide so they must be doing something right.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but IF you are changing your oil at the recommended intervals I really do wonder if spending the extra for a fancy name brand really buys you any difference in the long run. Yeah the other filters are better, but a 50 cal is better than a 22 too. But if your killing bunnies why spend $$$ when $ will kill the bunny just as dead? OK bad analogy, but if you change the oil before it turns to sludge does the expensive one do a better job? And are you really going to keep your truck forever? Or are you making sure the next guy is getting an over-maintained truck.

Because life has been super, super busy for me the past couple of months, I've been getting oil changes at the quicky lube place. I can guarantee you they are using the cheapest oil and filters. I haven't lost a second of sleep over that. The oil is changed regularly and IMHO that is what is most important.

I've seen Fram filters first hand fail on quite a few serious built sbc race engines from drain back or bypass valve failures that have properly tightened filters being blown of the oil filter pad at 7k plus rpms

If you don't believe on how cheaply designed a Fram filter is , buy one and cut it open . You'll be surprised how its put together

A faulty anti drain back valve will cause no oil to be inside the filter on start up and over time this can cause premature engine damage . A damaged bypass valve can cause over pressurization of the filter causing it to swell and blow up

in the early 1990's Willow Springs BANNED Fram spin on oil filters because they were blowing off completely and oiling the track, and yea that was 30 years ago and they sold a trillion oil filters since but Ive never heard of it with any other brand so why not just use the stocker when Amazon drops its at my door for the same price, or less? But I tend to agree its the actual changing of the oil thats the most important and I use the cheapest oil I can find from Sam's Club 5/30 semi-synthetic at less than $22 a case.

I see nothing wrong with an "over-maintained" truck, lol. No harm there except maybe to your wallet. If that gives you piece of mind, go for it.

But I think what all this comes down do is people are pretty set in their ways and will go to the ends of the earth to justify it. It's why we have elevendy billion oil threads and they all come to the same conclusion: my oil (or filter) is best, yours sucks and you're destroying your engine.

I've certainly been accused of being set in my ways because I've been using brand Orange for a long time. I'm perfectly willing to change, there just has to be a valid reason for it. I'm sure what I consider a valid reason is perhaps a little more rigorous because of my background. I'm not going to just take some blog's word for it, or because some manufacturer says theirs is the best. The brand I typically use is more than likely an accident based on what was on the shelf at the time. Maybe my dad used the brand, or I'm partial to orange because I like KTM dirtbikes. I honestly don't remember. I make no claims I've done any testing that it's the best (despite being accused of it).

This is 100% true. You could use a dirty sock as your oil filter and it wouldn't matter as long as you change it regularly.

That is a nice truck you have in there Mr Kevin Jones, but I won't buy it after you tired of it because what I learned here today is that Fram means Filter Rated Absolute Merde so your truck is about to explode at anytime hahahaha

also, being a "science person" please demonstrate that you can run with a dirty sock as an oil filter.

Why buy a shitty orange Fram when the Toyota filters costs the exact same? Makes zero sense to me!
