Is a "mid-travel" suspension setup for me?

    The truck will be a daily driver and I want it to maintain stock load/towing capacity.

    I want to offroad on the weekends in southern Nevada. Is a mid-travel a good compromise between a simple lift vs. a LT setup - or is it going to be neither of what I need/want?

    I was thinking of going with the Icon Stage 3 kit but am open to suggestions.

    Will I need fenders for a mid-travel setup like that? Thanks.

    My budget is flexible...I could go with a LT setup, but I think it's overkill for the type of off-roading I want to do. I'm not going to be hitting anything fast or hard - well not intentionally.

    Still a noob at all this so please bear with me.

    It sounds like you would be fine with just a OME kit. I myself like a bit of overkill so that is why I'm going with a Fox or King setup all around in the future.

    Im running Icon extended coilovers, Light racing UCA's and allpro Expo leafs with billi 5125....im not 100% sure but i think thats mid travel. I dont need fiberglass and the ride is incredible and the performs great offroad.

    woody6047: Did you need spacers for the weheels? What size tires you have? I want to run some slightly bigger tires. Also, does that setup still have the same load/tow capacity/capability?

    No spacers for the wheels just make sure you get a wheel with a 4.5 backspacing (i believe CHECK THAT FIRST) im running 285/75/16's,

    Im pretty positive my leafs can handle more weight than the stock leafs.... I dont know about the tow capacity, i rarely tow, but i load the shit out of the bed... two dirtbikes about 600+lbs with gear,gas, and tools. it only drops about an inch... if that. Take a look at my build tread in my signature for more pictures of the setup, if you already havent.

    Downsouth motorsports (DSM)

    DSM uniball UCA, 2.5" king's w/ remote resi, add a leaf w/ 2.0 fox in the rear.

    Ah so many ways to go, but that's 1 way to do a midtravel.

    Icon is great too, and I'd go w/ a coilover set-up like that or similar.

    Sway-a-way racerunner shocks are good for hardcore use, and of course fox and king. Really, you can't go wrong with the big coilover shock names.

    When the time comes I'm going LT as my off road use gets a little wild sometimes.
    Bare in mind that hard off-road use will wiggle the cambolts around a lot and throw out the alignment, so be prepared for consistent alignments if you plan on rocking the truck hard, I speak from experience on this one. When I go LT i'll gusset the bolts so they wont move.

    Also if you want a bit more independence in the suspension, remove the sway bar. It'll ride a lot nicer offroad, and it's still very manageable on pavement. Okay, that's just my 2cents. Good luck!

    Avoid the balljoint UCA's. Uniball is stronger, more travel. Most people around here go with Total chaos, camburg, Light Racing or DSM

    Good choice brother! keep in mind you will need a rear shock too

    EDIT: and the expos handle extra weight really well!
