Is a TRD package worth it?

Smart move. If you travel off road at all, you might as well get the 4x4.

I was to lazy to read through all the posts but I had an 2007 sr5 (non TRD) I just bought a 13 TRD an I would never go back to just an sr5 the interior is way nicer way more comfy and 10x easier to keep clean than that ugly tan in an sr5
    Just my 2 cents

I wanted an SR5 access cab 4x4 when I went to the dealer I told them what I wanted well they didn't have one on the lot. So they had me test drive an OR access cab it was funny as the guy kept saying the seats are awsome the SR5 doesn't have these. Lol

I still wanted an SR5 and I'm used to the non TRD seats as my company truck is a base 4x4. As we went to seal the deal so they could find my truck in inventory I advised that I intended to pay in full via cashiers check. Then they suddenly wanted me to get a TRD OR or Sport. I said nope I want an SR5 and in my opinion the scoop on the sport looks like high school shit. Lol they got that an SR5 was what I wanted.

Different strokes for different folks. I can see the argument for TRD when financing as monthly payment doesn't increase by very much. Of course I could have paid in full for a TRD Pro but I didn't want that.

So I say get what you want.

@STORMY my SR5 has the gray interior just depends certain times you can get either gray or tan sometimes only gray.

My SR5 has a gray interior as well. Though I put seat covers over it to keep my kids from soiling it. LOL

I wanted the SR5 DCLB specifically. Though I like the idea of having a 4x4 for trails and such I don't plan to become a rock crawler. And I figured eventually I'd upgrade the suspension anyhow (which I did). So upgrading to the TRD for a different suspension and locker didn't make sense. Especially since the TRD OR was a DCSB. If push really came to shove I can add lockers (although they are SPENDY). But I've yet to see an aftermarket bed replacement (forget 'bed extenders').

Admittedly I think you get a lot for the price difference. But they are specifically off-road centric upgrades.

Things that others missed included in the TRD OR:
HDC (Hill Decent Control) on the automatic
Water/stain resistant resistant seats (in addition to the improved seat design)
    Power inverter in the bed
    Better AT tires
    Better wheels
    Upgraded interior trim
    Chrome grill/bumper (negative IMO)
    Pretty stickers and better resale

I looked at an SR5 vs TRD OR when purchasing my truck (new), the TRD was $2k more. For that, they key items that came in the TRD package (for me):
-Rear locker (I could add an ARB to the SR5 for over $1k)
-ATRAC, awesome off road traction control, not very feasible to add later. Well worth it.
-HDC Hill Decent Control, next best thing to using first gear on a manual for hill decants when you have an auto
-Significantly upgrade brake booster that is electronically boosted (vs vaccum)
-Tow package with transmission cooler (autos like transmission coolers for long life), also gets the TSB 3 leaf springs and hitch
-Upgraded wheels and AT tires (vs SR5 Hwy tires), several hundred dollar value. Easier to sell if/when I upgrade
-Bilstein suspension with progressive springs. Better to use and easier to sell if/when I upgrade
    -Power inverter in the bed
-Way better and more supportive seats that are water resistant plus interior trim upgrades
    -Off-road swaybar
    +more

That is a lot of value for $2k, which made it a no brainer for me. Adding a selectable locker + AT tires to an SR5 would cost nearly the equivalent.

Note trucks prior to 2012 may differ.

I have a TRD sport and kinda wished I would have went with the offroad instead for the atrak and locker. I just love the scoop and everything color matched but now you can pretty much find someone on here getting rid of their color matched bumpers and grills. I have a sport and I got a rear HC bumper installed so it was kinda a waste getting the color match.

Do you want/need a long bed or a double cab?

Probably. I hemmed and hawed for over a year on access cab vs double cab and all trim levels and wound up getting the DCSB SR since I wanted a manual I had to get a short bed. I don't like chrome, personal preference. I added the intermittent wipers and backup camera and am happy. The SR is kind of like the sport without the scoop and missing a few other things. I like that it came with black alloy wheels stock. If it was my daily driver I would think about the upgraded seats but I am happy with it so far. I had to order it since it seems dealers around me don't order them that way.
