Austin kicks ass!! I have been here for a little over 4 years and lovin it! 78704 area is more the down town "feel" more walking distance to things. I live in Cedar Park just north of Austin this is where most of the growth is. Just don't move any where in east Austin and you are good. If you move here you will have to join in on some of the meets. And yes the summers are failry hot more so this last summer (hotest on reccord!)

Yeah, I want to experience down town a bit for my first few months here before I decide to buy or move a bit further away.

I will definitely join in some of the meet ups

    Where did you relocate from?

YES!, This is classic south Austin. My favorite part of town. Are you renting or buying?

The plan is to rent right now. I found a place near south lamar and south 1st and north of ben white. Only problem is, I will most likely have to go site unseen. Tough picking out a place without seeing it.

So you think Austin is a bad place to live now, why? I hear nothing but great things about it. I will be there in less than a week for job relocation, I'm looking forward to it. It'll be the 4th state I've lived in, originally from California. And just because I'm from California doesn't mean you can stereotype me :)

Maybe I'll see you all on the streets soon!

Austin just wasn't built well for the amount of traffic we have. We only have 4 hwy's going east and west and 3 going north and south....

sorry for the harsh words, just sharing my thoughts due to a few ppl from Cali giving me the middle finger in my home town, it just makes me mad thats all. not at you... sorry bout that. I just respect my city and want to keep it weird...

Austin was a really neat city i enjoyed living there for 2 years. Yea traffic sucked but it makes up for it in other ways.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent all around shop in South Austin (downtow-ish are)? I'm sick and tired of dealing with Jeep Masters (too many reasons to list) and refuse to deal with places like Firestone, Midas, Brake Masters, etc. I just need an all around mechanic who can balance and oversize tire, weld on sliders, that type of stuff.
