Thanks for that. I think this is the path I am going down. What other stuff do you have from them? I have been looking at their sliders to. I have heard / seen mixed reviews of their stuff but freely admit that I have not paid that great attention to it. I would be curious to get your insight ...

That would be good for a brake controller on post 2019 Tacoma's without the small coin holder in the dash.

Also, im not sure about the bad reviews. The items i have are good. Ive been wheeling since 2006, had sliders from other companies, and theae are just as good. I have no other complaints either. Their customer service is also very responsive. Now, all companies have some.bad stories, its true for any.

But, i wonder, how many bad reviews for certain parts are from anyone that has any actual experience, using a product, or knowled5 of how something should work.

The DMM from Taco Garage is what I put in. I hate drilling and don't prefer non OEM looking mods but this was very low impact and if you wanted you could take out the Ram mount balls and you would not know it was there using the little hole covers provided in the kit. The possibilities are endless with the Ram mount options to get the perfect position for what you are trying to mount. There's a couple helpful hints in this thread.

The offroam mount may be an option. It attaches to the vent but it doesn’t block it.

I totally hear you. One of the problems I have here in NY is we just don't have the kinds of off road shops that are more common in the West. So, I can't go and see the products and talk to people who really use them and can offer real world advice. So reviews are all I have -- which is why Tacomaworld is such an invaluable resource.

I think I am going with the Cali Raised solution. I watched the video and feel like I can do that install without making a mess out of it -- it is a matter of drilling a few holes in the plastic. Also they have a relationship with. Tackform so there are lot of other accessories that I can leverage if I need to expand my options. I probably won't need that but nice to know it is there.

Appreciate your help. Down the road, I am definitely going to get the Cali Raised sliders as well.

I went this route for a phone mount. Ram ball, 1/4 × 20 bolt with star washer on the back side. Ram X-grip on 6 inch post.
Phone is out of the way but within easy reach. 20220109_211931.jpg 20220109_211946.jpg
It is very sturdy for on the road stuff. It would probably vibrate a little offroad but I know the phone is secure enough not to fall out.

Would anyone be interested in this type of RAM type ball mount?
This is a prototype. Soon to be in production. This will be powder coated in flat black. Mounting hardware will be included.

They already make a mounting system like this.

There is something similar but not nearly as refined as the one I have designed or as strong. Also, my mount only requires 5x holes for mounting so the install takes about 20-25 min.

i second the dmm. i was super nervous to drill into my dash, but it really wasnt too hard. like, i spent so much on this truck and now im drilling holes? i didnt even have a drill.

but after you get the first 2 side holes, everything was super simple. looks really clean too. doesnt have the track like the cali raised, but i still really like it. haven't done any cabling yet.

The weak point in this is not the metal plate. It's the plastic bezel it's bolted to.
But if your design can be made more affordably? (Cheaper) That would be a win! What is the price point you're thinking about selling your design?
Also, make sure the wire access holes are larger to allow for something like the Auxbeam switch panels.

    1. My design wont be cheaper. There are over a dozen CNC processes and the fit and finish will be very tight. I will be adding support brackets as an accessory option if needed.
    2. Cost will be $145 with 1x RAM type ball mount, mounting hardware and plastic plugs for the un-used threaded holes.
    2. The 2x cutouts for USB cables seems adequate for the thick cable I have for my X-grip with charger built in but if someone could provide the size of the AuxBeam input cable I would be able to confirm fitment.

I had a footwell mount in a previous truck and liked it a lot. Passenger occasionally banged a knee on it, but that was her issue.

I went the cheap homemade route for this one.

I put a flange mount on the dash bezel that bolts to a reinforcing back plate on the underside. I actually like the flange over the ball because a) it's not as noticable when nothing is mounted, and b) I just so happened to have one lying around in the garage and you can't beat the price of something you already have. If I decide I don't like it, it won't take much to hide a single drill hole either.

I wish there was more space to look down though. It doesn't take much to block the windshield in these trucks.

I followed the advice in this thread and am happy with it, I throw my phone in there when I'm around town (but w/ android auto I don't end up interacting with the phone once its connected)

I used one as pictured in the OP when I had a Tundra. That was mounted on the passenger side and sat near the OEM stereo. I had that, a ham radio on a Panavise mount on the dash, and a scanner mounted in the console. Lots of noise. ;)

what about yours is more refined and stronger than the DMM? at first glance they seem virtually identical. if anything, i would think less holes/fasteners to distribute weight/torque through the plastic of the trim would make it weaker.
