2010 is the best year.. but I am biased. I have 110k on mine. $15k is a steal! I say get it

Drop bracket lift. Yuk! You still haven’t mentioned if it’s 4wd or a prerunner.

I would low ball it for $12000. But only if its a 4x4. I would start there and get him down a little from $15k.

Interesting situation with a happy outcome.

Value of a 2010 Tacoma with a bad frame

I bought my '09 Taco 3 years ago with just under 200K and haven't regretted it for a minute.

the drop bracket lift alone would put me at a no. i believe it means the cross member had to be cut (may be wrong). regardless the frame needs to be looked over good, its strange he hasn't brought it in to be looked at. its not as easy as you go in to the dealer and they give you a new frame cuz of the year.

as mentioned get the newest, lowest mileage truck you can in your price range. An unmolested truck is always the best bet as well unless it will be a dedicated trail buggy/rig

Everything revolves around the owner there are those that drive them and those that maintain them. I live next to NH they like to clear their roads with salt my frame is still black. Every fall it gets it's frame cleaned any hint of rust gets sandblasted and repainted (I have the luxury of a lift in my garage) then a new coat of FF. Every service by the book. Earlly on Toyota replaced the front diff (bad axle bearing they don't fix them that just replace them). I did a front wheel bearing at 83K and a O2 sensor at 90K They are tough trucks but like anything else it's up the owner. This one is Toyota truck number 3 all of the others had at least 300K before I sold them. If you have a geek mechanic friend take them with you if not hire one.

My 2010 has nearly 180k and the only problems I’ve had are problems I caused making mistakes rushing mods, and have all been fixed with no issue. See if he’s gotten the frame coated with the recall. My dad’s 07 sequoia got a brand new frame, I only got a coating, but the frame is in great shape and well coated now. The 2010 is an excellent year, by the time they got to 2010 most of the earlier year issues (05-07/08) were fixed aside from the blower motor resistor. $15k is a little steep, especially if the body/paint arent in near perfect shape. I wouldn’t expect to sell mine for more than ~$13k. If you can get him down a little, it should be a great truck

If I thought about selling my 2009 DCSB with 156K on the clock, I'd ask 15K. That doesn't mean I'd get it. I just had the frame replaced because the tech knew what he was looking for and where to look. The one you are looking at may not need one (time is running out on the 12 years) but I'd have it inspected by an experienced tech. No matter what, get it inspected!

Two things that would concern me:

from a post “wheel bearings and the serpentine belt idler and tensioner pulleys.” Stuff like this could nickel and dime you to death.

Around here we have OBX, taking a truck on the beach takes years off its life.
