I feel like a night or two solo between the wheelwells wouldn't be bad but I don't know if I'd want to do it with a lady. Def not a lady and my dog.

My wife and I have done a lot of overnighters in my truck canopy. One of our dogs even sleeps back with us. My canopy is set up pretty comfortably for sleeping. We find it much more comfortable than sleeping in a tent.

The biggest problem is having to move and store our gear at night either outside or in the front of the truck. It's not an ideal situation when it's raining or when we want to be stealth.

For me it would depend on the weather. If it is storm-type weather I would rather sleep in the hard shell vehicle. If conditions are not going to be bad I would rather pitch a ground tent. We combated this situation by going to a RTT!

I have a standard height ARE CX shell with a platform built in. I use it for quick overnights when I arrive at a trailhead late and plan to wake up early to hike. If I'm actually spending some time at a campsite and doing the full experience then I pitch a tent. I've been doing that for a few years and the platform sleeps fine, but it does suck not to be able to sit up in the mornings. I also don't really like leaving my cooler and other misc gear outside the truck at night.

That said, I just got the word that my GFC will be ready early 2021. I'm selling the ARE topper. It was a nice experiment, but I need a little more versatility. RTT has never been an option in my mind...too much weight and money for something I still can't stand up inside of.
