Hi, I'm pretty new to TW and I have a 97 2.7l tacoma and the clutch doesn't start grabbing until it's about halfway out or more. I was wondering if there is any adjustment that can be made to the linkage or something? Thanks in advance!

If it's the original clutch from 97, it's probably ready for a new one. I had a 96 that had a lot of pedal before it caught. Once I pulled it apart it was pretty obvious what the problem was.

Also, do you know how much a new clutch assembly would cost and get it installed?

That depends on where you buy it and who installs it. Prices vary

Depending on the shape of your drivetrain ,$700 would be an average cost to have it done .
This would include a new clutch kit consisting of a new pressure plate , clutch disc and release bearing .
This does not include a new pilot bearing or the cost to have the flywheel machined .
The flywheel " MUST " be machined for warranty purposes ,
Nor does it cover the cost to flush the hydraulic assisted clutch components
Nor does it cover shop supplies , nutts , bolts , zip ties , oxy/acetylene usage , universal joints or transmission fluid .

i was told by Toyota dealer mechanic clutch is not adjustable,
so i don't know the best route to attempt to alleviate the cold weather idle lurching that has been going on for many years it seems
what should i be looking at

Wait till the truck warms up !!

If your in stop and go driving till the truck warms up.

If it is really a problem sitting down and looking at the signal from the coolant temp sensor you could send a signal that the engine was up to temp Just a matter of voltage as it is a simple thermister .

this usually happens parked in the garage/driveway
i have to use the clutch pedal to start it (don't usually use the cancel button)
so its in neutral and i let the clutch out (parking brake on) to step out and clean snow or scrape ice, it lurches in neutral when i let the pedal out, which seems odd, its been happening for so long now i don't know if its normal or not :notsure:

That is because The Gear oil is so cold .

The cold gear oil is enough to make the truck move even in neutral

Remember the Main Shafts of The Transfer case and Transmission are spinning .

You never notice this does not happen in the warm weather no snow to brush off.

Toytec coilovers. Height adjustable Bilstein's. 265/75/16 MT. TRD wheels. Rebuilt r150f. Marlin clutch kit. All kinds of new parts...
The clutch itself isn't adjustable. The pedal however is. gearcruncher has the link up there for reference.

Cost break-down (did it myself) was $360 for a marlin crawler clutch kit. (OEM components, little more heavy duty). $85.00 for a brand spanking new flywheel. About $30 in beer and shop rags. Most of the cost is labor. This job in my neck of the woods ranges from $800 - $1200 depending on the shop.

Most likely not much The colder it is the thicker it gets.

Unless you want to change fluids for winter and summer

    Move to a warmer climate

i am going to find the pedal spring and shoot some nut-z lube up there to stop the squeak that seems to be seasonal

i would rather move to a colder climate!

was not totally sure if there was any harm being done with this lurching

Swap the old spring it for a linear spring, that's usually what causes the squeaking.

... will have to do some trial and error this winter with the clutch-start-cancel button

it was squeaking during the first several years i had it, iirc
had it lubed up a few times eons ago which seemed to help
since its mostly 'seasonal' i have learned to endure
