It changes the induction noise. An open air filter system will be much louder than an enclosed air filter system.
The aftermarket intake tubes, between the air box and throttle body are louder since there is no resonator.
The TRD intake accelerator is quieter than the OEM fender mounted air box inlet.

In the 3.5L Tacoma's case, the resonator's primary function appears to be reducing noise, perhaps at the expense of driveability. New-vehicle noise regulations are very strict (much more so than the state laws regarding keeping an older vehicle roadworthy).

Here's HPS' dyno graph. Limited trust as far as vendor graphs go, but I haven't seen independent dyno graphs on this. No change in peak power or peak torque, as you'd expect. However, with the stock intake, there are dips in the power curve at 3800 rpm and 4300 rpm that the resonator-delete appears to have smoothed out:

No, reflashing does not clear transmission or ECU learning values . You have to do those on their own . Separate process.

Doesn't the intake valve open at 4000?

That and some of them look pretty wicked, I think AFE does a bang up job, especially with some friendly assistance from TW magic-man Coupe:thumbsup:2D55F99D-4A2A-47DB-81CA-9827AC1E7DC9.jpg

Sure it is. Over 2 decades and well over 150k miles of trouble free K&N air filter bliss speaks for itself.

Clearly you have zero education in scientific method are unfamiliar with basic engineering principles. Believe what you want, your arguments are irrelevant.

Okay, so it's acceptable for you to spout a bunch of lies, half-truths, and anecdotal garbage, but when someone calls you out because of your lack of foundation, you dub them a troll; hey, I can live with that.

You respect tuners but don't respect OEM engineers? C'mon man. That's like respecting a 3yo instead of their parents.

Best intake I've tested on a 2G. Ran that same combo on my personal '15. It's the only intake I've found to not jack up the MAF scaling due to a different ID on the MAF housing. Every other intake I've tested (URD, Volant, K&N, S&B, Etc) all required rescaling of the MAF due to differences in the MAF housing diameter.

You're a troll, because you personally attack anyone on this thread that speaks praise of K&N filters or provides any evidence of K&N's success. You insist that
my experience of over 2 decades and 150k miles of using K&N air filters is "a bunch of lies, half-truths, and anecdotal garbage" and "is no proof of anything" according to your personal opinion.

Find something else to do with your time other than trolling this thread anytime a member posts positive K&N feedback.

All the research I did said the same thing. I wanted the Volant but kept stumbling on individuals with CEL light issues and for that kind of money I hard passed and went with the tried and true. Besides, it’s the original TRD intake for the 2nd Gen, before, funny enough, KandN bought it up and screwed up the design some how (nothing to do with the filter in this case, somehow they engineered the intake tube diameter wrong or something…) leading to the aforementioned Volant issues. I run the pro dry s filter and along with the TRD exhaust I’m really enjoying the feel of the truck. Seems to pull longer before shift points, and sounds great!
