To be fair OEM engineers are not looking to get power. They are looking to quiet, reliability, and emissions. All enemies to power. :)

Firsthand knowledge as this is what I do for our products: We look for the best possible solution for the customer's needs. We also look at the best possible compromise. Power vs reliability, cost vs performance, and we all have rules that govern each and every design. Federal, state and local rules, not to mention the laws of physics.
And finally and most important, is our selling price must be in line with our competitors and PBIT must match our target.
Everyone always blames the "company" for wanting to make a big profit. What few realize is most of those profits go back into the company for CAPEX spending like new equipment, new plants, etc. So, PBIT is as important as selling price.

A good truck is a truck that is not great at any one thing, but good at many things.

I just purchased the intake tube from K&N mainly to see how it affects my exhaust and throttle response. I have ran an AFE drop in filter (oiled) for the last 65k miles or so, and felt the difference-- nothing drastic, but the throttle response was there. The issue about all things vehicle intake related is that it is as polarizing as abortion or religion in politics, hence why this thread grew quickly. I can not give AF on how some keyboard warrior feels when I do something to my truck. Is it pointless/destructive/counterintuitive to install any form of an intake/filter that is not OEM? Maybe... probably not... but maybe. A lot of people will argue both sides for reasons unknown. Like 99% of the changes we make to our truck, its for personal reasons. Just like if a senator is a muslim/christian/jewish/etc, thats for personal reasons... just keep it to yourself.

In summation, CAI is a religion. One that I have some faith in, but regardless, its a good way to live my life:amen:

K&N FIPK tube works for me (at sea level)... as many have stated, the HP gains are debatable, but the throttle response is undeniable even with my 91 octane tune (which completely changed the feel of the truck). https://www.extremeterrain.com/kn-tacoma-series-57-fipk-cold-air-intake-57-9039.html

Changing your intake will not provide you with any more O2; look for a different solution.

I’ve had this electric sign for many years, not many out there.

If y’all K&N fans want to make an offer it’s here in Phoenix.3451BD0C-1EE5-42D5-B296-370B10A854FB.jpg

They don’t work but people put them in anyway. Then they get defensive because deep down they KNOW they don’t work. This thread went as well as an oil thread.
