Nofords is telling you he went from an aftermarket intake back to stock and prefers stock.

I've had everything from stock, to a drop in filter, to a full AFE intake, and I'm telling you that stock with a paper filter gets better mileage than the aftermarket or the drop in filter.

    Who's talking shit now?

I got the same set up plus jba long tubes. my buddy has his Tacoma stock, and he cruises at 80mph @ close to 3000rpm, I cruise 80mph at 2100rpm. pwr is noticeable

    Noise=turbulence=reduced efficiency. Think so.

I read a while back that Ford, in response to owner complaints that their higher-end Mustangs were too quiet, added a tuned sound pipe to carry engine noise into the cabin. Maybe that would be better than a poorly-engineered aftermarket intake system.

I think that the effects of CAI's are highly overrated.

I have a CAI in mine and hate it, i mean the sound is cool but i have a Magnaflow for that. The only thing the CAI does for mine is a CEL that is very annoying, i am currently trying to find someone who will trade me for stock and still haven't got any replies yet

I'm prob the minority here...but for the life of me I just don't get guys who put "exhausts" on pickup trucks... Toyota ones at that... throttle body spacers and "CAI", this is not a sports car... motorists, neighbors, don't want to "hear ur truck"... flame suit on. it's never going to win a race or do anything significant. It's a daily driver, r u guys taking these things to DE track events and motorcross?

some do, but most of us prefer off road in one form or another for recreational driving.

    I hear ya. :)

Mine is just a daily driver work truck, but it's still fun to tinker around with it nonetheless.

I went back to my stock exhaust to regain the low end torque I had lost. Gotta admit the quiet is also nice. My intake only goes "bwwaaa" when I want it to, which I think sounds better than an exhaust. ;)

    Check Build Thread!!
That could be anything from different rear end gearing ratios to Auto vs Manual Trannies. A CAI has nothing to do with that
A lot of companies are actually adding small speakers inside the dash in cab to bring the sound inside.
lol, Trial and error. Unfortunately, the Overrated/underratedness of them are subjective to each users opinion.

too each his own right? And to be honest i put all of it on mine because it is just that....... MINE!! So you go ahead and use it as a stock daily driver and do nothing with YOURS. I do mods on mine simply because i can, and i get a kick out of it. :duel:

Its your truck and if you really want a cold air intake do it! I mean I just put a k&n in but I found out stock works great around town and up in the mountains the k&n really helps my truck get up them hills a little easier

    That's true...
And mine sure doesn't carry any more weight than anyone else's. ;)When our trucks are in motion, there's a hurricane of ambient temperature air flowing through the engine compartment.

I love all the people that are saying "I do it for the power!" You do know that CAI's do not increase your power at all... right?

I have the AFE Stage 2 SI intake and I really like it. No intake sounds at all, I picked MPG which I track religously, and my air intake tempature is usually only a couple of degrees above ambient air tempature.

I looked up AFE to see what they're like, and came across this really strange design listed for 2010 Toyota Tacomas at etrailer.com.

Ever see one of these?
It's got to be the wrong picture.
