I had my fuel pump die and I requested OEM parts at the shop I like. They said sure and put in a delphi assembly.
    I thought OEM was Denso.

can anyone confirm I´m not going crazy?

    Thank you

    Denso if it’s a 2nd Gen.
Pretty sure Denso was the OEM for 1st gens too.

Surely, they didn’t throw a GM part in a Tacoma
    Kidding……kidding….take it easy GM guys:rofl:

Ok, going off the top of my head, 100% BS but I think its right.

2nd gens were part of a rough joint venture with GM, the corolla/matrix was part of this as well.

Delphi made the ECU's and some HVAC parts. LOTS of them failed. There was a ECU recall, and famously the blower motor resistors melt on 2nd gens.

I refuse to google this, someone feel free to correct me, or pile on more 3rd hand knowledge.

There may have been a year or two where Delphi got the pump contract for some reason

They make a decent pump, I wouldn't worry about.

I haven’t had any issues with the Delphi I’ve used.
But all of them were in GM products.

Never seen a Tacoma with a factory Delphi.
But I’ve only seen one that came out of a Tacoma, I didn’t play a role in the replacement.

yeah, they put a delphi in it. I wouldn't care as much hadn't I told them to use OEM parts and them agreeing twice...
God damnit man. Plus, I tested the old pump and everything works except for the floater.

My A/C compressor is a Delphi. OEM from the factory. Has worked great for over 10 years now.
    I wouldn't worry about it :)

No you're not wrong at all. Toyota has been in bed with GM for a very long time. The resistors on these trucks failed heavily due to the part and the associated wiring were manufactured by Delphi who is owned by GM and there was a lot of poor contact going on. The climate control units were an issue as well due to the same poor contact issue, at least in the later gen 2nd gens.

The PCM's is a new one to me but if it was manufactured by those bozos then it wouldn't surprise me at all. They are good at designing items with poor build quality and/ or poor QA/QC.

You won't find a lot of this stuff on Google because not a lot of folks know this stuff or care to talk about it, it's more of a thing you'll find scattered throughout forum posts like yours and mine. I refuse to Google it as well because I've seen the stuff firsthand and to do otherwise would be to most likely just spin my wheels. Lol.

About 8.5/10 of the vehicles that we installed fuel pumps into that were of the Delphi brand were needed to be pulled back out under our warranty because they would be failing right out of the box. The ones that didn't fail would return shortly thereafter for any of the associated diagnosed issues that comes with fuel pump failure. That is a very high failure rate. Too high actually. It got to the point that we got burnt so much that we stopped offering them as a suitable (or recommended by us to the customer) replacement for any vehicle with a failing fuel pump based on the fact that it was wasting both ours and the customers time and money. Because of all the previous experiences with the brand, I have to say that I personally would never trust a Delphi product in my vehicle that is as much of a pain in the rear to get to as a fuel pump. Smaller items, eh, okay but definitely not the bigger more vital components.

These guys were the Bosch of o2 sensors (junk) for fuel pumps.

Maybe they cleaned up their act and make stuff better now current day. Maybe not. Either way. I couldn't let this thread slide without at least putting that out there. Now my conscience is clean. :)

I think it's OEM for some parts but not sure for the fuel pump. Pretty sure that I remember somewhere that the Tacoma was a joint effort with Toyota and GM. I know that the fuse boxes are delfi but don't know what else.

    I mean...

They told me my truck was ready and then they called me and told me the first delphi pump they put in was defective and needed a new one.
They put a second delphi and give me my truck back with the fuel light on. I filled up the tank and the fuel light is still on...
    It´s like a fucking joke

There you go see. Those Delphi pumps are like the Bosch of O2 sensors, absolute garbage. Denso or bust and even then. I have had Denso fail right out of the box as well but they were standalone pumps and not module assemblies.

Sounds about right for a 500$ pump and 2 hours of labor

I'm looking on WorldPac and the denso unit is cheaper but it's only the pump, have to install it in the bucket/module. They probably went with the Delphi because it's a complete unit with fuel sender and everything ready to drop in. Sounds like they fucked it up twice though.. sorry

If you ask for an OE part at a shop and they say they got one, they’re saying they got you a part that is made by the manufacturer of the OE part. It is not a part that came from a Toyota dealer if it didn’t come from the dealer the part is not built to OE specs.

Yep and they can point to Delphis' status as an OEM manufacturer and say "well, Delphi is technically oem because they make parts for toyota sometimes"

yeah, price is not an issue, and I usually like the shop. I brought the truck on mondayand it was “fixed” by yesterday, so they work fast.

I’m failing to understand this. Delphi is oe for toyota because they make compatible parts?
