I used to have them on my truck with 285/65 a/t's with a 1.25 spacer lift and they rubbed pretty bad with everyday driving.

This is exactly what I was going to say.
More clearance at ride height, as soon as the suspension compresses you're in the same boat as before unless its a drop bracket lift, or a body lift.

I take this as........265s should work and 285s are a no go.

285's will be fine too. Just don't be afraid to trim some plastics and where it makes shiny spots on the pinchweld. People do it on here all the time. Backspacing is exactly what you want to keep the tires away from the frame and UCA.

And keeping with the subsequent theme of the thread...I'm still waiting for the all knowing BrettBrettBrettBretterDouchCanoe to respond.

Measurements will show that you should be okay with the 265 until you get a lift. Those rims will stick out 1.7" further than factory and shouldnt rub the front. The rear may barely rub at full flex compression, so I would check that out before taking it off road. these were on my old Tacoma and stuck out 1.3" further than factory. I had about .5" of clearance from the sidewall to the inside of the fender where the rim would have tucked...

Would I be better off trying to make these work or trading them in for a different offset?

Sorry I should of been more specific in stating that a standard 3" suspension lift will not decrease the chances of rubbing unless mall crawling.

My statement was not meant for DB lifts, Spacer lifts, Spindle lifts, and LT lifts.

DB lifts do change geometry or at least the couple I have seen or worked on did.

I did also forget about a top plate spacer and that it would in essence limit up travel and blow your shock out by topping out before the truck hits the bump stops and the fact it also gives more droop.

    Hope that helps OP.
