I have an 05 prerunner automatic and I was wonderin if engine braking when trying to
Slowdown is bad. I commute every day and downshifting to 3rd and 2nd gear is the the norm for me..I just tryin to keep my rpms low. Any input is appreciated! Thanks

It's not bad at all.....unless you downshift too low and cause the engine rpm's to scream.

I'm confused though...you mentioned that you downshift but are trying to keep the rpm's low? Generally, downshifting causes the rpms to increase. Although, you're not using any gas...the rpm's still are increased when you downshift.

+1...RPMs will go up if you force the downshift. Not going to hurt anything...but everything I've heard is the auto trans gets pretty good mileage...so why mess with it??
