Who the hell is asking you $4500 for a lift and tires? Even if you take off 1000 for tires, for $3500 you better be getting Kings...

Why don't you do what a reasonable person would do and go take your truck offroad, then learn what upgrades you need?

This is true..most lifts r for looks. However, if you ever get into serious wheeling, having your frame and front diff up off the rocks frees you up a lot.

Its getting bad, Im almost broke.
Ill admit it, my package is small and I'm getting old and starting to lose my hair, I'm also rocking the dad bod, so the lift just makes me feel better about myself. My wife suddenly feels more attracted to me (really, its my truck), but it looks great people give me compliments. Just that alone makes my self esteem go up and the money spent justified. So yes, i suppose the lift is worth it. IMG_0518.jpg

    My 0.02 cents worth:
If I was off-roading for sport or doing research on skirt fashions, then yes it be worth it

But I just off-road to go places where others there not go or its work related and I've had no issues thus far that would cause me to lift.
In fact, in stock form this truck has more guts than I have balls and if in doubt, just watch some TOYOTA PRO challenge series vids.

I was going to lift mine 1inch and put some bigger wheels on. I put the wheels on first. I actually got the look I wanted going with 265/70/17 and looking at it and how it sits now, I like it the way it is. I will replace my stock OR suspension for something better in the future when it fails but I'm pretty happy as far as ride height.

Putting in my 2 cents: Take the truck out off road before you spend money on ANYTHING. Some people here hate the stock tires but I've done just fine with them in sand/ snow/ and dirt. I have the off road package so it comes with some different tires already. Maybe you can pick up a set off off-road rims/tires that some other guy took off his truck as soon as he got it. I bet people sell the stock stuff for next to nothing compared to brand new stuff.

Anyway, with no lift and stock tires I've managed to have a lot of fun off road already. The truck is very very capable in stock form. Plus, if you do have any issues, your warranty is nicely intact and the dealer can't blame over size tires or a lift for broken drive line components. Also, when you do break stuff, now you know what to upgrade!

You're more than welcome to ask I don't mind.

It's more a hold me over until I can justify a nice King remote resivoir mid travel setup with adjustable coil overs up front and for the rear finish pieceing together parts for my 63" Chevy leaf spring swap with King 14" shocks.

I probably wouldn't have bought and installed most of this if my stock suspension wasn't sitting 2.5" lower than stock when I was unloaded and before I started adding armour and lights etc. (200k miles on original springs and shocks means dead.)

    Here goes off memory:

    255 75 17 BFG KM2 on 5 lug jeep wheels set of 5 $200
    sold jeep wheels -$100
Stock FJ cruiser Steelies set of 5 $80
(Currently selling set of 4 TRD/OR alloys with TPMS and 60% tread Yokohama Geolandars $250 forum price)
Stock low mile TRD/OR Bilsteins/springs with 2" non preload top of strut spacers $100
    Stock TRD/OR Leafs with 2" add a leaf $90
Bilstein 5100's for the rear $40
Extended all-pro SS braided brake lines $100

And the single most expensive piece of my suspension set up:
All-Pro tubular 1.25" uniball upper A-arms once installed but effectively brand new. $400 (considering these are over $700+shipping new I'd say it was a steal.

So that puts me at a 2" lift (with tubular A-Arms and extended brake lines) and 32" BFG mud tires for right around $900.

Actually more than I thought I had invested but hey there's no point in keeping score when it comes to love.

All parts installed my yours truly on weekends or after work saved me all labor costs, and of course buying used saved me hundreds if not thousands.

Just gotta be fast know what you want or what will work for what you're trying to acheive and jump on it quick if it comes along. Pay attention to the for sale threads here and craigslist/offer up/facebook market, whatever. It also helps to know parts compatibility, for example I found my All Pro A-Arms in a FJ cruiser parts listing. The PO didn't know they fit the Tacoma all though All-Pro's site says they do. Gotta read the fine print sometimes.

    Happy hunting!

If a lift plus the larger tires it enables gives you 2-3" extra ground clearance, ask yourself: can you judge the height of every rock on the trail by 2-3"? Can you always control your speed so you won't bounce or rock 2-3" more over a ledge or obstacle? I know I can't, and when I did have a lift and larger tires on an earlier truck, I actually suffered more body damage on the trail, because I thought I could go anywhere. My 3rd gen is stock now, but my first mod will be sliders then skid plates, and maybe a low profile front bumper.

I lifted mine and love it. Nothing major just an OME kit and 265/75/16. Total on everything is about $2400. Can’t be scared all your life.

I live in a rural area and use my truck for a daily driver, and also for backcountry camping, hunting, and plain ol' woodsloafing. I do offload some, fire-roads and forest service roads a lot, and also plenty of nasty gravel washboard roads. A stock Tacoma is well suited for all of these activities. A lift is, for probably 75% of people who spend $2000 and up to have them done, purely for cosmetic mall-crawler purposes. I am very happy with my stock Tacoma, get lots of compliments on it, and am not in the least bit interested in wasting money to shorten the life of my (very cool) truck.

255 80 17 on stock suspension? That's roughly 2" diameter over stock off road wheels. I have a 2016 off road and I was measuring...that seems really tight with no lift. Would that involve trimming?

With the right wheel and alignment it's doable, you might have the slightest rub at full turn and compression but ymmv.

Running a 255 75 17 with a tired old stock suspension and FJ steelies I cleared with no rubbing at all. A 255 80 17 is only a 1/2 more radius and a 255 is a 255 so nothing more in width.

OP There's a lot of experience lifting trucks on this thread, for $4500, you'd be doing yourself a favor by posting exactly what type of lift you were quoted for... I'm not talking about guys saying kings are better than fox... I'm talking about either saving you some coin on an overpriced spacer lift (don't do this) or letting you know the quality of the suspension lift you're looking at. Hope that makes sense.
