Is having a matching spare important?

I upgraded my steel wheels for a set of 4Runner Pro wheels a couple of months ago or so. I did not upgrade the spare, it's still original.

Other than appearances if I ever have to us it, is there a reason why it should match the other 4?

    TIA

If the tire is same numbers i dont match since its just a spare, now if its say a 33" tire and you have stock spare it would work but prob not ideal.

I imagine the big concern is to have the same sized tire as a spare. Matching the wheel for weight would be nice to have but if it's only to get you off the trail and back home for repairs, it's not as important.

Lug nuts may be different. With a steel wheel spare and alloy wheels you may want to carry an extra set for the spare if needed.

I’ve got SCS wheels and keep a set of the oem lugs in a rag and a 4x4 block in with the Jack.

As long as the tires are the same size diameter, you're fine. Did you reuse your lug nuts with the new wheels? If no, make sure the new lug nuts will work with the old steel wheels like @Vann said.
