Is it a waste getting a TRD Pro if I know I’m going to lift it

I’m in the market of going from a 2 door jeep to a tacoma and I’m looking online and I know I’m going to eventually lift it once I get one so in doing so I’d be getting rid of the fox suspension that comes with the TRD Pro. I do like the leather and the sunroof however but if I’m taking the fox’s off when I add a lift kit is it still worth going with a pro? I could always sell the fox’s too.

    Thanks

What other parts of the Pro do you like? The Offroads can be spec'd with Sunroof and leather if that is the part you like :)

You’re basically throwing away 10k to say you have a pro. Most dealers are marking them up as well. It would have cost me 15k more to drive away with a pro here over the TRD Off Road.

if you got it though, what the hell, I love the molded “TRD PRO” on the bed.

Obviously the factory skid plates, love the front grille, the Led fog lights, and badging with the leather and sunroof and heated seats. what do you think?

Yup that’s what I’m thinking but damn that pro badging is super bad ass lol for some reason I love it. if I can sell the fox suspension may not be too too bad though?

Building on the webite, the difference between a TRD offroad with Leather and a pro, only makes the pro roughly $3,000 more expensive then the Offroad.... In realworld, the price difference is most likely closer to $5,000-$10,000 difference because of inventory....

All that stuff you listed can be purchased aftermarket for the TRD offroad and put on to look like the Pro for cheaper then the pro cost..

While I agree with you, a pro does look cool! it has most of the stuff already installed, that people buy aftermarket then add onto their truck... Butttttt.. For that amount of money, you can build a "better truck" for the price of a pro over a offroad...

My 2 cents... If i could find a pro at a dealership for the only $3,000-$4,000 over a offroad I would have done it.... Although that $3,000-$4,000 doesn't really exist where I live, its way higher so a offroad over the pro was a no brainer...

Right on, thanks. especially since I know I’ll be lifting it and putting on new tires that 3k difference can go towards that instead of the fox and all the rest of it will be specd on and then just add lights. By the way another question, if I go for 34’s and a 2.5” lift will I have to regear?

I'm biased. I think a "pro" is a badge of honor. But only if you get it in Metallic Lime Green
There are tons of threads to do your research on here. Check the suspension section to get lined up for what you need to tuck larger than 33's and be prepared to make the blood oath that comes with it.

I went the TRD OR route because I planned on doing all that too, but I still would have enjoyed having a pro. Haters gonna hate.

Good question, the truck is underpowered, and the transmission likes to hunt for gears when you start approaching 33’s or more… people generally recommend regearing or tuning your truck/transmission for better shift points at that point. Unfortunately it’s a big subjective question, taking into consideration how much Grade you drive on every day, your driving patterns etc.. I would say yes, at 34’s the majority of people are going to want to regear…

Other not fun things to fit 34’s. you’ll have to chop out a section of your cab mount, (look up cab mount chop), and remove quite a bit of plastic in your liners and flatten your pinch welds inside your fender to fit the tires.

2.5” of lift is also the magic number when you lift you’ll want to pursue new upper control arms and while you’re in there replace the front diff bearing.

Sorry to be mr bummer, but that’s some things to start looking into

Not a bummer at all I appreciate the info, I have seen all this online, shouldn’t be too big of an issue but I’m a sucker for the look of the big tires and 2.5” lift on those builds lol

Yeah I’m thinking I still may just get the pro to have all that sucker stuff already added on and just sell the fox’s after I lift it. but at least before then fox’s will do me well

You might be surprised too. I'd say get it, drive it (don't impulse buy mods like me before you get it) and then make your decisions. Stock MPG's isn't so bad, but if you plan on tucking 33's+, kiss that goodbye right now. But you'll never know until you drive it for a while, which now days, is very hard to do since the dealerships have none. It makes "planning" mods so much easier. I think if I would have gone with a pro, I would have done tires and the rest would be little aesthetic stuff. I am committed to 5.29's and 35's though. I started it, and I aim to finish it ;)

What hasn’t been mentioned is resale. A pro will likely hold its value better than a modded up OR… albeit the suspension upgrade cost would be equally lost on either.

I'd say get the upgraded off road premium, it will hit most of the features you want and avoid any markups
