I'm a noob, so please bear with me.

Did ECGS bushing install today. Everything seems to be going well. CV axle went back in pretty easily but I can't tell if it's seated properly. I feel like it needs another 1/8 inch or so to be flush (which of course is about the width of the clip and has me thinking I'm not getting the clip seated properly)... but I've popped the CV back out twice now from this position and I'm almost certain I can feel the pop of the clip letting go when I smack on it the other way to get it back out (it definitely doesn't come out with little taps from this position -- it takes some good smacks to get it started).

I've tried wailing on it with prybar / cold chisel on the little flanges and it'll sometimes just barely slide in a little maybe a 1/16th of an inch but then just immediately plop right back out like the rubber seals are pushing back to their comfort zone.

I've read a handful of posts some say keep smacking the shit out of it others say you don't want to smack it too hard... but it gets to this point VERY easily so I'm warry to keep smacking on it especially since the flanges are starting to get demolished in some spots.

When I took it out the first time I verified ECGS bushing is flush so I don't think that's it.

Edit: This is with no spindle or anything else attached -- just the CV. Don't want to do anything else until I know whether or not this is correct.

    Appreciate any feedback :notsure:

Here's a video of shaking the cv in & out ... it sure feels / sounds like the clip is properly engaged... that lip just doesn't look right. Wish I'd taken a picture before I yanked it out because for all I know this is exactly how it looked brand new.

I felt pretty confident that the lock ring was properly engage, and after scouring google images for pictures of taco / 4runner difs and seeing several with the same gap as mine, I decided to just put everything back to together. Topped the dif off and took her for a test drive 2wd and 4h. No issues and no leaking, but I'll be checking religiously for leaks in the coming weeks. :notsure:

I seriously appreciate the input... 'cus I'm legit clueless!

(also: dig the username!) I was born at Castle AFB while it was still an active base. Always been an SR-71 fanboi on account of the one they have parked out front.

My kids are never as impressed with it as I am when I make us stop there on road trips, though
