Or are the late 2nd Gens bringing about the same money for similar miles as a 3 Gen? Toying seriously with selling my 2019 and sliding into something like a 2015. I am surprised at what they seem to be getting marked sold for on here.

‘15 xrunner or trd pro would be sick. I put my ‘13 on the market because I noticed the prices do seem crazy

I'm having a hard time understanding why you would sell your perfectly fine 3rd gen at a loss for a 2nd gen that is:

    1. Not worth as much
    2. Older, meaning it will have a shorter expected life ahead of it

In no world should a 2nd gen fetch the same amount as a similar trim 3rd gen, especially due to the fact that it will be an older vehicle with outdated tech and safety features.

Were you considering selling the 3rd gen to potentially save a little money on monthly payments, or is there another reason for thinking about the changeup?

I was in the market at the beginning of the year for what I thought would be a 2012-2015 DC 4WD Taco and ended up with my 2016. The prices were so high for a late 2nd gen 4WD with a clean title and less than 150k miles. Most were still over $25k, so it made sense to start seriously considering early year 3rd gens and the rest is history.

    LOL, "outdated tech".

You mean no expensive & hard-to-fix nanny radars front and back, no nanny lane-keeping, and having one of the more legendary Tacoma motors as far as reliability, the hearty 4.0L V6.

--2nd gen owner/devotee. 80K miles on the clock, crossing fingers for 400K+, provided some dork doesn't run into my truck & total it.

There is a lady near me with an inferno 2nd Gen Pro. I see her on the road now and again. I'm curious to engage to see if she is ever interested to sell. That is a clean looking truck.

Maybe that doesn't matter to you but I'll take all the help I can get to keep my friends and family safe. As far as the LEGENDARY 4.0 goes, the 3.5 works fine for me and there are many with 300k+ miles chugging along. The last 2nd gen taco in my family warped a head gasket, fixed that, then it jumped timing and grenaded itself. My 3.5 has been much more enjoyable to drive, at least in my opinion.

LOL in no world is a 2nd gen having a shorter life expectancy than a 3rd gen.

It’s already got nearly 10 years of driving under its belt with an unknown service history, and that’s if you get one with low miles.

Just my opinion though, which could be wrong. I believe I have spoken to both of you guys on the forum before and am not looking to upset anyone or burn any bridges. I appreciate the civil conversation.

There will always be a paying market for those fearing tech, same thing will happen every generation. It’s just the cycle of life.
In the end, the tech almost always proves reliable.
Over 40 years ago, the ol timers were scared of power windows,,,, I’ve never had one break. Repair tools, parts, procedures catch up quickly and are there to swoop in to demystify the scary tech.

Yes, but the 3rd gen has been in multiple accidents while the 2nd gen has a clean bill.

Yep, and same goes for the gen1s if you can find an unmolested one. <75k 4x4 with no rust is basically 30k no matter the generation. Pick your poison

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
I just sold my 2007 sport. I bought it new in 2007 and put something like 350k on it. Both my third gen and g2 were MT although I've also owned a g3 auto.

    I paid 22 sold it for 14k

The 4.0 vs 3.5 difference is minimal. The main being that the 3 g3 wants to shift about 1k higher across each gear.

The suspensions are more or less identical.

If you like cd players, physical antennas, yet want no safety control go with an early g2. The later ones 2.5 have much of the "nanny controls" you find on the g3..

Burn outs and drifting in gravel are fun in a 2.0 but it's also terrifying to come down cameron pass in a blizzard in it too...

    Maybe have both.
