It’s already 10 years old minimum… 17 maximum… dude is retiring in 3 years … surely working on a 2 decade ol thang is just pure joy.

2005s were sold in 2004, meaning up to 20 years old. The new 3rd gen will 100% outlast any 2nd gen. Not only the engine but also the fact that basically everything rubber will require replacement in the future just off of the old age. Buying a second gen to replace your new 3rd gen will be nothing but a headache.

3rd gens are only 8 years old, max.

Bit early to be calling "it's gonna outlive!", innit, when the oldest 2nd gens are nearly 20 years old. (Excepting 2005's with the known & addressable head-gasket issue.)

Also, regarding "everything rubber," wat?! Aside from a minor oil leak, my other 1999 1st gen Taco w/ 167K miles on it has all original hoses, seals, etc. & somehow manages to run fine at 25 years old now.

The same logic can be applied to the 3rd gen, where most of the known issues were addressed before the facelift (2020+).

My first gen has 264k it is an epic piece of shit compared to my 3rd gen. And it’s purdy. Has all Orginal non peeled paint, 0 rust. And every single thing works. It’s old … but not the good kind of old. It also gets the same mpg out of a 4 banger with 120hp as my “impossibly slow compared to the 4.god” 3.5

Watching Tacoma owners debate V6 reliability using their own anecdotal stories is like watching a Lamborghini & Ferrari owner debate which car is more Italian. Entertaining, but probably a waste of each others time.

4.0 & 3.5 are just two branches of the same excellent GR series tree.

    Lambos are just fancy tractors.

    Some historical gossip. --
The lore goes that Lamborghini, himself a successful tractor manufacturer and a Ferrari customer, suggested improvements to Enzo Ferrari about his cars. Enzo's dismissive response spurred Lamborghini to create his own car, leading to the birth of the Lamborghini 350 GT.
