Depending on how the dealership pays their salesmen they may have to share the commission from the sale. Go for the best possible deal you can and don't worry about the salesman's feelings! When I worked at a dealership in high school as a lot lizard the sales manager told me "There's an ass for every seat". All they care about is the sale.

The salesmen called us that. It was washing cars, sweeping the shop, grunt work like that. Can't say that they were the nicest bunch of guys to be around so I'm sure it wasn't a term of endearment!

In hawaii,we have state and county weight tax. 2 cents a pound for Tacomas state wide- and 1.25 cents per pound county. Each island is it's own county including any small island around you.

In the end, aren't the MSRP and the invoice rather arbitrary numbers?

Wow! Gotcha! Thanks for the info.

$790/ yr for reg is nuts and quickly adds up to much more than I Would have paid in 6% sales tax here in Pa on the full value of the truck after just over 2 yrs...after that your truck now costs more than I paid factoring in reg fees’s...plus our reg. Is only $36 a yr in Pa!!

You said it goes down to a flat rate, how low does it get?

I’m leasing so even paying less (only pay tax on monthly payment) but I digress, each state has its perks and negatives. Congrats on a great initial purchase price though, you did great.

Sorry, thought I was responding to you above. Guess I was responding to Hextall who gave me some intel on NH. Didn’t realize NH had those insane reg fee’s.

Like I said you got one hell of a damn good deal, congrats. Just sucks you supposedly have a $700+ yearly reg Fee.

We have to pay for a yearly state inspection and emissions test in PA which averages around $80 depending where you go, and if you get a deal..so we have that.

    And to OP,

Sure, work 2 dealers against each other. Why not.

2 salesman at the same dealer seems very odd and wrong especially since as stated above the salesman have to get most all deals cleared through the sales Mgr. Piss that sale Mgr off and your deal
Might stall there and never get better.

    But....

I prefer to deal directly with the sales manager, and I have a very good rapport with my go to Toyota dealerships sales manager since I have bought five cars from them.

I believe the NH registration rate is set by both vehicle weight (heavier pays more) and age (older pays less). so I'm not really sure what to expect wtih a tacoma.

but I'd bet it still would be a couple hundred dollars a year.

It isnt "kosher" but its your money. If you can save, do it. They do everything possible to take your money and you need to do everything possible to save it.

This right here. I bought my truck and it was far beyond my reach. Negotiated with the dealer and they delivered the truck right to my front door and took my old vehicle away. Way better than messing with salesmen and will probably do it again.

Partially agree. I shop via email. Come in with written OTD amount and then negotiate some more in person.

The email route is the way to go (internet/fleet sales too), BUT only if you work with different dealerships. DO NOT pit salespeople from the same dealership against each other because you'll come out on the losing end!

    Good luck!
