So sometimes on the freeway I need to switch lanes and I have to gun it to get that acceleration going (kinda reminds me of a two stroke where you have to really ring it out and theres the power band at the higher rpm) but anyway it always seems to hit near 6k before it shifts which kinda scares me so just wondering if that's bad for the motor.

I'm not pegging it all the time and just when I need to like if I have to merge into a freeway etc

I'm sure half the guys in here rev to red every day for hundreds of thousands of miles and have no issues later on. I personally never do this though.

Have you driven an auto 3rd gen? Does everyone elses shift early under acceleration? I'm not trying to be a speed racer by any means just not try get my ass rammed into and create an accident

Modern vehicles are tuned by the factory to never reach RPM's that could cause any damage. Your engine can handle RPM's quite higher than you could ever get them up to.

Nothing wrong with redlining other than fuel consumption.

An auto is never going to damage itself. Even in S1 mode the computer will shift to avoid damage

why would u want to take your $45,000 truck into the redline area and just by chance blow'in your motor or seals, the warranty wont cover items that are stupidly caused by the owners for no apparent reasoning other than thinking the truck is slow

Its an auto. He could stomp the pedal to the floor every day and it wont have an issue. He isn't bouncing the needle off max redline in a manual

it doesn't matter if anyone owns a 3rd gen your reasoning to drive your truck towards a redline is absurd, that goes for any automobile

its not even necessary to stomp the pedal into redline, everyday. you say it wont cause an issue, why do u think they call it the REDLINE area because it means danger to the engine/trans if u chose to keep playing with fire u get burnt

I don't think I can hit the red line with my truck in gear. Never tried it. I have shifted manual transmissions with out ever lifting my foot off the accelerator.

That's pure opinion and I, along with most, disagree. Modern engine testing includes running the engine at full redline for extended periods of time to determine the safest RPM to limit the engine to ever hit when designing the ECU. I can promise you there will never be damage caused by flooring your accelerator and letting your engine get a workout to get to up to speed of traffic or whatever it is you need to do.

So you think toyota engineered their tranny to cause damage before it shifts at max rpm?

hell yeah I believe anything u tell me, just for shits and giggles I'll go out and Redline my $45k investment knowing full well that some dude on the internet says its all good, remember they don't call it the REDLINE area cause it means that its good to do, its the opposite keep out and don't come into this area, very simple principle

I wouldn't be worried. Just stay on top of oil changes and keep good maintenance.

Who you running from that you hit readline all the time ? I'm an MT and hardly ever go above 4k
