If you're in the redline, you're PERFECTLY FINE. If you hit the end of your redline, then you'll have issues as that is past the MAX SAFE ZONE. Simple as that. As other have said..these trucks have been DESIGNED to reach 6k RPMS. I've seen it happen when I've had to punch it at higher speeds.

What if I told you it makes its best torque around 5200 or so. Running it to 6000 is useless.

It's funny because there are people who unironically believe that fuel pumps burn up the second you drop below 1/4 tank.

To cause damage to the fuel pump you would have to run consistently with less than 0.1 gallons of gas. Toyota specifically designed it to keep the fuel pump covered and cooled until the bitter end.

I know right? 22k out the door poverty package FTW. :D

ANYWAYS. I think a lot of this has to do with people having conflicting ideas of what "redlining" is and what redline actually means. If your tach needle is NEAR the maximum indicated redline, you are not "redlining," you are simply revving the engine high within its intended parameters. If you have PASSED the maximum indicated redline and are now fully into the red zone, you are redlining now and I don't think Toyotas with AT's will even let you do that.

And it's all a sliding scale anyways. An engine that spends more time at 4 to 5 thousand RPM will wear out and fail much faster than an engine that chills out at about 1800 all day.

The only for sure way to window your Tacoma's block is to have an MT and money shift it. :burnrubber: The good ol 1-to-2-back-to-1 and straight to the flatbed.

Y'all don't realize this idiot is trolling? He just put up a video and it was just a broken gauge and the explosion was fake sound effects. Don't drive for 10 minutes while redlining and you'll never have a problem. Automatics shift when they calculate they should.

I actually did a few redline pulls right off the lot when the truck was brand new, once the engine was sufficiently hot. I wanted to try the hard break procedure to see how that would affect gas consumption/power down the line.

Running these close to redline won't hurt anything. I'm sure lots of Tacoma (and other truck owners) tow going up hills for minutes at a time at 4-5k rpm even higher with no issues. If these engines were so weak as to blow up all the time running close to redline that would be bad for business. 6k is a low redline anyway. I had a car 10 years ago that revd to 8500 rpm and it hit that multiple times a day and was happy doing it.

Who really knows? I haven't babied my truck at all and it still runs like a top at almost 90K miles, with the tires and stock gearing i have to rev it out to make moves in traffic or pass someone. Hell it will stay in 4th gear at 4k+ rpm for miles on cruise control trying to maintain 85mph. Fu*king drive the thing, i wouldn't take advice from people that seem to have gotten their information from a autotech book from the 80's.

Just Read this. I'm looking at a third gen mt. Did they pull the rev limiter out? Most of the newer Tacoma's that I drive n drove have rev limiters so you cant over rev the engine. Hopefully they didnt delete it.

I’m sitting here thinking how could someone payed that much, I guess a PRO after taxes. Still crazy. Surely wouldn’t pay that much for a OR, sport or limited. Paid 34k for my OR and that’s getting it at dealer invoice since I worked there at the time. If i payed anymore I would of went back to another F150 instead

You have a better chance of blowing a motor just pulling a bloody trailer than by occasionally redlining it. Give your head a shake. It's a naturally aspirated Gas V6. How many regular unmolested 3rd gens have you heard of the engine blowing up on?

    0. I haven't even seen an oil leak.

And FYI this same engine, has two turbos on it in the Lexus LS350. It's overbuilt. It can handle redlines no problem.

Is it bad to stay in the red band? Fuck yeah. But you can bounce off it without problems.
