Haha I already had the pic. But I drive regularly. I’ll even rev to 6800rpms because 50 years of other owners has found the true redline on these engines is 7400 with stock valves. Mine can go even higher with the valvetrain I installed but the power starts falling off before 7000

    I drove a 2005 2TR FE MT very hard...for 751,000 miles.

Now I drive my 2018 AT, with 45,000 miles on it already, in the same way, in "S" mode.

I did not buy this work truck to baby it.

I do emergency medical deliveries for a living and don't have time to play around.

Check your fluids...maintain your truck properly...let er rip.

751,000 miles!! Impressive, I hope to have the same life out of my four banger as well. Having a 22re before, I got faith in the yotas 4 cyl powerplant.

Granted, my truck is new (500 miles) and automatic. I realize, and can feel the truck change a bit in it's performance habits every time I drive it. However, you don't realize that when you drive this truck like a NORMAL automatic vehicle it piles up the first three or four gears in an amazingly short period of time. I just sold my 2006 GMC Sierra 5.3 HO to buy my Toyota. Even tho the engine in the GMC was 50% more cubic inches and 65 more horsepower, it was possible when you had to get out of the way of some idiot that pushed you into a bad situation to hit redline.

It's much easier to do it in a truck that seems to prefer to pile up the first four gears in 50 feet. When the transmission calls for a downshift, it's not only HOW FAR you push the pedal gas pedal, but HOW FAST you push it. Have someone push your vehicle into a bad situation and tell me that you'll drive like there is an egg under the gas pedal.

Cool IT !! Yeah I had a 22RE too, and put a little over 400k miles on it. Loved that truck. Typical 22RE problems. Plastic timing chain sprocket...(WTF Toyota?) Radiator. Blown head gasket. Everything else was outstanding. Mega durability. Great 4 banger.

Agree, my 86 4runner convinced me of what a 4cylinder in a truck has to offer even in 4x4. So ya seldomly, I guess, ain't too bad to see the needle kissing the red, though Ive only done it once in my SR .

I've redlined every car I've ever owned. I pretty much drove the shit out of all of them. I've never had an engine fail. Most of my vehicles have had over 200k miles before I sold or traded them in. Like someone else mentioned, just take care of it.

I could imagine some premature wear if you maintain maximum RPM's for a prolonged period of time. Like when a guy I knew when I was younger passed out in a car with his foot on the gas, pinging off the rev limiter until someone woke him up. I believe that engine was toast. To be fair, though, it was a Dodge:D

The guy that did the machine work on my engines had a steadfast rule for break in. Set idle to 1500 rpm and don't let the idle drop below that until the engine warms up. Hot lash the valves and then shut the engine off and let it cool. Retorque the heads, intake manifold and exhaust headers.

Start the engine, take the vehicle out on an unpopulated road, put in in low gear or first gear if stick, floor it and rev to redline, let off gas and let the engine and vehicle slow down to idle speed. Repeat the process 9 more times. Take it home, set the idle to whatever the engine like best, change the oil and filter and drive it as fast and hard as you want. Only rule was to let it warm up before you beat it to death.

I never blew up an engine that had the machine work done by him. BUT, having the engine work done by him cost 3x the amount that any other machine shop charged.

Redline is a limit. If he’s going TO the limit, and not over, then it’s ok. He didn’t say he was going into the red arc.

I think most, if no all modern engines retard the timing or cut ignition to cylinders when engine hits it's redline, which keeps you from exceeding safe engine rpm.

It'll do it. It'll do it for a long time. The engines are built for it. The computer protects it.....

It'll still last longer if you don't do it.
