I purchased some Denso K20HR-U11 plugs but isn't OEM NGK & Denso? Is it ok to use these for the first plug change at 87,000 miles. This is a used truck and its never been done I think. 2015 V6 Automatic.

Stop over thinking and put them in, they are stock plugs, you will be fine. Copper plugs are to be changed every 30k so you are 57k overdue.

    All stock, baby!
Yes, that’ll be fine. You can find a couple of message threads that talk about the possible/likely reasons that Toyota chose to do this, and none of them suggest to continue the practice. The main recommendation/opinion you’ll find is to stick with non-iridium plugs if that’s what was used stock. I just put a set of these same plugs into my Taco and they’re performing just dandy.

Denso or NGK for tacomas, nothing else. So if you got any of these two, it's good

Then if you don't know what to choose between copper, platinum or iridium, the only difference between them is their longevity. They don't give more HP or anything

Copper is the cheapest but they also have the shortest lifespan. They must be replaced at about 30k miles intervals
Platinum have a longer lifespan, needing to be replaced at about 100k miles
Iridium are the most expensive of the bunch, but they can last for 120k+ miles

If you put the wrong plugs on the wrong side you'll get worse gas mileage but only when making turns on the side of the engine with the wrong plugs.

The denso's for the 2nd gen seem to wear better than the ngk cross part. So run the densos

That stated the ngk half n denso in the other half stems way back with toyota, its just how they do things and makes it easy to see if someone has ever changed plugs.

FYI Not overthinking just checking, duh. I was debating having the Dealership change but in my 78 years I have always done my own. No reason to stop now.

Thanks for the helpful replies and now it headed to stupid, time to stop the emails!

Is the truck running bad? Why are you changing the plugs? I've taken vehicles close to 200K miles on original plugs with no ill effects. It's not like the old days when you had to change the points and plugs every 18K miles.

Run them! If I was going to replace copper plugs in any engine, I would definitely spring for the long-life iridiums so I don't have to do it again for a long time.

Yup I am a fan of Iridium's but when your 78 lifetime warranty is kind of over Kill :)

@wmgeorge, I noticed the same thing as the quote above mentions. I'm not sure if this is because NGK gaps their plugs wider than Denso, or if it's because NGKs actually wear down faster than Densos. Either way, I replaced all my plugs with Densos. Copper plugs are the way to go if you want to avoid some of the fussiness that can reportedly come with platinum and iridium plugs.

Many people have ran the stock copper plugs over 100k with no issues although I wouldn't recommend it. Some people have reported issues running Iridium plugs in the 4.0L, I'm not sure why but it doesn't seem to like them all that well.
