Is it really okay to go 10,000 miles between oil changes?

Every 5000, for the small cost better life and less problems potentially

So what you’re saying is yes 10,000 is ok or no?

I've been changing mine at 10K since new with full synthetic. From everything I read even 10K is being cautious with synthetic. I'm at 201,000 now and I have never had to add oil before the 10,000 miles. I've been doing the same on all of my vehicles for years. I have well over 400,000 combined miles on my 3 vehicles with zero issues.

This guy changes at 8000-10,000 and has over 1.2 million miles on his truck. 900,000 on the original engine and 400,000 and counting on the 2nd engine.

I had mine changed at the dealer at 5,000 and paid $54.95 for that, the dealer did it at 10,000. I will pay for mine at 15000. The dealer will pay for it at 20000, and after that I will do it every 5000 at dealer at cost to myself

I wasn't aware until a few days ago I only needed to do it every 10k so I was doing it at every 5k. The "maintenance required" message comes on every 5k miles, how do I change that then? I don't want to dismiss it every time I get in the truck once I reach 5k miles.

It’s in the settings. Takes about 15 seconds.

Follow the manuals, written by the engineers that build the truck.

No. Only 1,000mi is safe and remember to set the points while you're there.

As all have stated, it is your truck, do what you think is necessary. Took me a long time to go from 3000 mile changes to 5000 miles and now they recommend 10000. So for me I will change it at 5000 and dealer will change it at 10000 as I have lifetime oil changes with dealer. Better oils mean better coverage and someday I will believe in the 10000 interval but by then it will probably be up to 15000 miles. Just remember there is great advice on Forums but also a lot of personal opinions, some good, some not so good. Good luck with your decision but if you take care of your truck it will take care of you. My sons 2001 is approaching 300000 and he does minimum maintenance.

I haven't heard of an engine failing unless it was new (a defect), someone ran it out of oil or put the wrong fluid in it. That's any engine from lawn mower up.

Full synthetic could probably go 15K w/o issue. 10K is well within the safety zone.

Except for your personal experience part, nothing else in your post is even remotely close to being a fact.

If that is the case, I apologise. I thought that's what it was.

    Stock and staying that way
A catch can is to reduce the amount of oil that goes into the PCV system, and ultimately is burned in the combustion chambers.

The oil filter is to remove metal and other solids in the oil.
