Is it really okay to go 10,000 miles between oil changes?

my experience from owning an 06 Civic and only put 53k over the 8 year of ownership, I changed the oil when the oil indicator showed 10% of life left. The indicator usually popped at around 5k7-6k2 miles, give or take. Full synthetic with new Fram filter every change since the day I bought it. The car had no engine problem whatsoever when I sold it.

I would hope your not putting in a old filter in, as that could be a cause of concern. :)

I get "Error", page not found on the links I checked from your post. I take it someone doesn't like oil change discussions? lol
I have a 2019, not even a thousand miles on it. Will likely end up taking it to the dealer after 1st six months for the first service with less than 5000k miles. I'm not concerned about the oil, but may get an oil and filter change post break in period, would love to see filter tests (take filter apart, rinse, look for metal shavings, contaminants, etc). We shall see.

If you don’t plan on keeping it long term it’s fine.

I change mine every 5k with super tech synthetic. Cheap maintenance. I would not go past 7k ....especially if you plan on keeping it

These threads are always nothing but cancer.

Yes, it is perfectly fine to go 10k between oil changes. You are gaining absolutely nothing by doing your oil change early. (for the billionth time)

There will ALWAYS be the people that think they are more educated than the army of engineers who design these engines. "10k sEemS wAaY tOo LOnG tO wAiT!".

THE SIMPLE ANSWER: Do whatever lets you sleep at night, whether that's 10k or 1k, whatever. At the end of the day, the fact remains that at 100K all these engines will wear the same whether it's oil change number 10 or number 20.

It’s a Toyota. Even a crappy one will last a long time. My dads 1998 Avalon went 400,000 miles and ran like new up until they day it was rear ended and declared totaled. He pretty much did minimal maintenance and oil changes. His oil changes were done every 5k to 8k miles on just regular oil whenever he felt like going. The car never had any issues.

I’m not like him and seem to like wasting money every 5k miles. Not sure if it’s needed but figure it can’t really hurt the car to do so.

BMW said to change my oil every 15k. I thought they were crazy. But then again I’m the idiot who got a car that required new brakes and tires every 12,000 miles. Twin turbo v8 made it really hard to drive slow.

I completely agree!! If you investigate most cars including BMW with oil consumption and or starvation problems it's due to longer oil changes, especially on turbocharged cars. Tons of leaks, clogged oil lines etc...
