Is it safe to install a new bumper… it replaces the factory crash bar??

What are some opinions on the safety of installing a new bumper; i am looking into the DV8, its thinner than the stock crash bar so im loosing confidence in its crash rating?!

You are removing structural crash rated and tested components to add something that has no testing at all. In anything other than light hits and slow speed accidents steel bumpers tend to create more damage to the truck by directing impact forces without mitigation back into the frame and occupants.

Id suggest looking at yhe caliraised version, i like how they have options that others dont. And how it ties into the frame. Or Southern Style Offroad.

The factory bumper isnt anything substantial, its a piece of aluminum hidden behind the plastic bumper, its not really going to do shit in a crash. All these trucks are designed to crumple and absorb an impact.

Now, 10 other people will post why im a half tard and wrong. Ha!

@J7X if you’re asking because you are worried, the only correct answer to your question is the ARB number. It is the only aftermarket bumper that has been tested for crashes and proper airbag deployment.

All others may be “stronger” and better and whatever, but you will be causing more damage to others in an accident and potentially transferring excessive energy to your frame.

As far as I'm aware, ARB is the only bumper with any kind of crash rating. But its only for kangaroos at around 60KPH

I can't speak to the DV8 bumper. I have an ARB on my FJ Cruiser. It bolts directly to the frame, and it it is big, heavy and merciless when it hits something. I hit a rock wall directly on at maybe 2 or 3 mph while trying to turn around in a wash, and I saw stars.

If you hit something small and at slow speed, the steel bumper gives you an advantage. If you are going fast and/or hit something big, all of the force is not absorbed by smart engineering. It is coming right at you.

Pictures of the DV8 where it's thinner? The stock crash bar is just an aluminum beam extrusion, relatively thin. Is the DV8 model you're looking at aluminum or steel?

I just read from several sources. It seems that the ARB bumper is tested to properly deploy air bags. The bull bars are tested to replicate factory equipment when it comes to collision crush.

@3JOH22A, this is what replaces the crash bar, from squared aluminum factory to this plate steel.
