I might get a 4th gen...but not until 2026 or 27 when they have the bugs worked out.

No money, all went to truck...
the 2.4T does not get substantially better MPG but supposedly 50% less emissions than the v6. That's pretty good though, I guess you have to be environmentally conscious to be excited about that. I am.

There is a certain appeal to owning the last year of a generation.

Last model year of a gen are the best. Also get a manual tranny while u can. Trade it in 4 years from now and get a fourth gen with all the bugs sorted.

edit. Pretty much what everyone else said

Find a pre-COVID early 2020 TRD Pro or access cab that was built in Texas and still has the transmission cooler.

    I'm buying two of them.
One to drive. One to hold in case I live long enough to wear out the other one.

'23 is the prime year for Tacoma - yes! Next year is a turbo 4cyl and slim chance manual transmission stays. Also Access Cab suicide doors will probably dissappear in replacement of micro doors like the '22 Tundra. GET A '23 TACOMA WHILE YOU CAN!

I don't buy first years of a new generation. I usually wait for some kinks to be worked out.

If I were you I'd get the '23 and if you end up liking the next generation Tacoma, you can trade it in.

Not driving reduces emissions by 100%. No way does an engine with more power and similar mpg get better emissions.

I’ll vote to stay normally aspirated MT until full EV.

I’ve has my share of turbo / twin turbo engines. Fun, but I sleep better without them. - I’m done with that…

I got a 22 knowing what was coming. I hope to get 300k out of it so by the time I need a new truck - the EV/Turbo issues are worked out and the platform is 10+ years old. ZERO desire for 1-2 year truck of a new model year. Current EV technology is a non-starter for me. It simply does not work at all for what I do.

IMO - Toyota tends to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Gen 4 is more revolutionary and that's not their bread and butter. I'll pass until they can evolve whatever's next a bit.

I'm not sure why Toyota is getting away from what keeps us coming back year after year. I don't care about emissions or infotainment systems. I care about reliability, dependability, and capability. There is a reason Toyota has dominated the mid sized truck market for years. I'm glad I got a '22 when I did!
