I absolutely love my 2022 and think the 22s and 23s will likely be some of the most reliable 3rd gens. All the kinks have have been worked out despite the madness in this forum.

I can just tell it’s got 300k miles in her. I feel great about the purchase. I’ve got a deposit down for a 2024 PRO but will likely just keep rolling that deposit forward into the next year until that truck is worked out. Or I’ll just cancel it if I end up really wanting to just keep the 22 since I think it’ll last forever.

I was ready to wait in the ‘23 but drove by and saw the exact truck that I had built out on Toyota’s website. Exactly. After reading some posts about people waiting a year plus for a truck they ordered, I’m glad I pulled the trigger. We can always look at what’s coming up…I’m sure the 2030 truck will be so nice but I would have lost 8 years enjoying this truck.
All that to say: who knows. Spending that much money is a real personal decision.
None of these trucks are work 40+k. None. But that’s the price…

I doubt the 4th gen will be out by next year. With continued supply setbacks industry-wide that aren’t forecast to resolve for 2-3 more years I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see the 4th gen for that same number of years. Furthermore I could see 4th gen prices being substantially more than 3rd’s (in today’s dollars).

How do you figure they aren't worth $40,000 or more? I suppose based upon 1975 calculations they are over priced, but their pricing seems to me to be quite competitive. Think about this, even a tiny little Ford Maverick when fully tarted out is $40,000 and it isn't half the truck the Tacoma is. Stepping up the comparisons to more Apples-to-Apples, all other small pickup comparisons, regardless of whether it is from Ford, Nissan, Honda, or Chevy easily price out north of that price point.

I seriously doubt the release of the Gen 4 Tacoma will slip; if it does, a year at the very most. Why? There are way too many sightings of test mules running around to suggest Toyota isn't way down the road toward the model change over.

Be careful poo-pooing the Maverick. It's an awesome little truck and after driving one I came very close to buying. It's a very versatile vehicle for the money, and don't forget you can get a pretty darn nice one for $25,000. If the next gen Ranger is on par with the Maverick, Toyota had better eat their Wheaties.

No intention to poo-poo the Maverick; it definitely fills a niche, but it is not a good Apples-to-Apples comparison for any of the $40,000+ Tacoma models.

Just my opinion. I love my truck but I bought my first car for $200 (and that’s about what it was worth). I think everything is overpriced…again, my opinion. I bought my first townhouse for 40k. Probably worth at least double that now. 40k truck is bad investment so I just look at it as a luxury item…a very expensive one. Is it comparable to other truck prices? Yes. All too much. :boink:

Definitely not an apples to apples comparison... which is why I didn't pull the trigger. If it was a tad bigger, I'd be driving one now and you all wouldn't be graced by my snark.

I was just trying to say that the $36,000 Lariat I drove, in my opinion, offered LOADS more value than the $50,000 Pro I'm buying. Yes, completely different trucks, and yes, I know nobody on this site will agree with me on that.

Exactly. The truck is worth what people pay for it. Inflation is real. No idea why people are using 2019 numbers to get outraged by todays numbers. It’s very simple, 1 dollar in 2019 was worth at least 15% more than it is today. That is just how it works. Cokes aren’t a nickel because nickels were worth more in 1950.

This is a fair point for sure. Ford offers way more features etc for the money. But toyota offers something else — otherwise you wouldn’t be paying more for one. You’d have bought the lariat

I echo most guys in this thread. Got my 22 last December, knowing that I would have to wait till 2026 to get Gen 4, to let 2024-2025 beta testers work the bugs out of the new model.
Get the Advance Tech package and factory LED headlights. I waited 6 months to find a truck that had those, and I will not buy another without those 2 options.

You have me beat, my first car cost me $225 (it also had the venerable 225 Slant-Six), I drove that poor thing over 100,000 additional miles and that engine never quit. :)

Regarding prices, inflation over time is a fact of life; I would argue a $40,000 Tacoma is something of a bargain in this current market.

For me - it didn't make sense to compare a single Tacoma and the price to a single Maveric/Ranger and the price. I need to compare 1 Taco to 2 Rangers because it's likely I'll buy 2 trucks in the same timeframe as I'd use the 1 Tacoma.

And yes - I've owned Rangers/Ford's in the past. Very familiar.

All the Fords I’ve owned started to get “shitty” around 80K miles.
