i wouldnt be too worried. you should have lifetime warranty on the repair. end of the day your trucks gotta be worth 20k+ and if you only have 8 grand in damage i cant see the insurance company writing it off and losing their ass on it even if you throw a shit fit.

the truck has to be hit a certain way for the bags to blow. obviously after a hit like that you are going to feel a certain amount of pain but at least you dont have a fucked up face from the airbag blowing right?

did your head bounce off the steering wheel? if not i assume the seat belts worked as they were supposed to so you didnt really need the airbags to blow anyways.

 

Really.......only $8000 that surprised me. Maybe it's due to the crumple zones etc these newer trucks have that it looks so much worse than it is. Yeah the airbags would worry me as well, but I don't know if it's a force related switch or a speed switch or a gyroscopic switch that is activated I'm sure someone on here would know better than I. Sorry to hear your back and shoulders are sore. Time for some good ole Chiropractic adjustment and a nice little trip to S. Florida for a massage or three by a pretty individual of your prefered gender.

The bottom of that piece mounts to the frame in TWO places. You would think from the factory, it will bolt right up to the frame flat, yes?

Well, look at the photos, the distance between those two places on the SAME FRAME RAIL now appear to be closer together, causing the piece to bow. This indicates that section of frame is no longer straight. It has bent/compressed.

Frame damage = totaled, typically.

 

i would say total but airbags are a big determinant for that, especially the front ones. On another occasion i was t boned in my sports car, 19k in damage but only the side airbags deployed so they didnt total it.

lot of panel damage, undercarriage, rear subframe was bent as well as suspension several years back.

 

I have no doubts about your friends repair abilities however I would also take it to a toyota dealership that does repairs and get a second opinion on price and to get some answers about why the airbags didn't deploy. At the end of the day you can still have your friends shop do the repairs but I almost guarantee a toyota dealership will result in the highest repair bill possible. FYI when I was hit in my 99 tacoma they fixed a truck work 9500 that had 7500 in damages.

that was my "make it work" fix on a mountain. Lesson I never seem to learn. Use locktite.

None. Quickly becoming more angry with them. I think a change of insurance companies is in order.

 

$8000 in damage. That must not include labor. Have another shop look at it. I took mine to the insurance company's recommended shop. Mechanic had a 16 page list of everything wrong. $25000 in parts and labor to fix it but you wouldn't think so from the photos.

 

Did you have rental coverage in your policy?

If you did, find out how much a day it covers and for how many days, and start shopping around. If you tell the car rental company manager that you will need it for a month while you await repairs, they can help you out more than you might expect. Be flexible, and nice too. I got a full size SUV for a month while my insurance decided what they were going to do. They couldn't decide if they were going to total it or not, and once they decided to total it, it took them another 2 weeks to come up with a settlement offer. Meanwhile I was enjoying the regularly priced $45/day SUV for less than $20/day. Paid for by Flo, of course.

 

It's going to be hard to say if it's totalled or not. It's more going to depend on what the adjuster says. I wouldn't hold my breath either way.

 

Yep, I see you're army, check out USAA, they have been wonderful for me in the past, they sent the adjuster out to me, gave me the damage estimate right then and there, they were great, even dealt with the other insurance company of the dude who hit me so I didn't have to.

 

When I hit a deer last Nov. my insurance (State Farm) suggested my dealership. Excellent repair, they even upgraded my headlights. Oh, and a free loaner to boot. A 2013 Highlander with 2K miles

 

I got a great deal on my totaled truck from the recommended mechanic shop. A check for over $20k on a 2008 TRD OR access cab with 160+ thousand miles.

 

The downside to this plan is if the repairing shop finds damage not listed on the original estimate. Once you accept the check, you generally waive any further damage claims. When the Ins.Co. deals directly with the repair facility, they will include any hidden damage.

I agree with the recommends to go to a reputable Toyota dealership.

Was the drunk identified? Arrested? Insured?

 

Um, that won't really work in his case. #1 reason, I can just about gaurantee you there will be a supplement to the original amount the insurance will pay off of, the shop is gonna find more damage once they tear it all apart, simply because of the extent of the damges. #2 reason, to fix his roof isn't gonna be cheap, could easily need a new roof skin. It's not like he needs a scratch painted for a few extra hundred bucks.

To my knowledge, I don't know of any Toyota dealerships in Washington that have their own bodyshops, it's a bit of a dying breed these days. I'd call your closest dealer and ask for a referal to a shop they recomend.

 

I took it to a family friends shop. Looking around now. Still nothing from insurance company. May just sell it as is.

I disagree I got my truck back from body shop that I wanted the work done at and had a noise after the repair figured out the noise had the adjuster come out and check it out and he cut me a check for the repairs
