Update. Found problems when I went under it in the garage.
One of the brackets for the bumper is missing the bolt and is bent. The other bracket is broken off (shiny metal visible where it broke). Also, the tear that I had mentioned to the ins co and the shop did not get repaired. It got painted over without any prep, so the chipped out paint is visible and the crack itself is wide enough to see light through. I'll post pictures later since I took them on my camera for better quality than my iPod.

I wish I could say what you are experiencing with the repairs is unusual, but sadly IME it is not! Most body shops are only interested in band aid repairs and get vehicles in and out as quickly as possible, with as little work and effort as possible, but not actually repairing the vehicle to precollision condition. When I hit a deer last summer, my truck was in the shop for a total of seven weeks in three trips. 5 weeks initially, and then an additional week both times I took it back because the repairs were unsatisfactory. Be firm and make your expectations with the shop and insurance clear. Don't settle for their half assed work. Most insurance companies have a regional quality assurance rep that you may have to have come out and inspect the initial repairs. I dealt with mine and he was very reasonable and ultimately made the body shop do additional work to bring my truck to a level of repair I was satisfied with.

Yeah. I guess they thought that I wouldn't be crawling under the truck.

    Terrible "repairs."

Get with your insurance agent and pick a different, reputable, shop. The repairs need to be on the insurance's dime.

Just got back from taking it up to the shop. He confirmed the tear is still in the bedside and the damage to the bumper reinforcement bar. Has to order in the bumper reinforcement bar and said the bedside will probably have to get replaced. Said I could drop it off tomorrow and it should take about 3 days to do. But the last 3 day estimate took 9 business days.
I am still trying to get ahold of the ins. company.

See, when I see a 4x4 damaged like this I immediately think to myself "rock crawler canvas!"

Going back into the shop tomorrow. I'll wait to see how they do the repairs. Bumper reinforcement should be completely bolt in, but the fender has to be reworked.

Scroll back through, the story is there. Sucked, to say the least. It was totaled, frame bent, almost all glass shattered. Now I have a 2015, like it much better.
Kind of a change of subject: was at a Toyota dealer today getting my wife's oil changed, so I checked out the selection of used trucks. Saw at least a half dozen 3rd gen already on the lot, 2016's with 15k miles or less! So I asked a sales person, they said people are trading them in because the trade in value is more than what they paid, after a few mods( tires, step bars, etc)
I guess the rest of the world is catching on!
Any way, as a point of reference, there was an 06, with 99k miles, asking 17k. I was thinking of a truck for my teenage son, I thought this was a little high priced, thoughts?

What options? Auto, 4x4, any aftermarket mods, access cab, etc?

KBB says an '06 SR5 DC in good shape from a dealer should be in the 14-16k range. Access cab in the 11 to 13k range.

So if it's a DC, then 17k sounds like the usual dealer "sucker" markup that you could probably talk them down from. If it's an access cab, the dealer is on something or it's a damn near perfect example.

Taco is back at the shop. Since I am not towing the airstream anytime this next 2 weeks, I didnt need tow capable. They got me into a 2016 Nissan Frontier DCSB 4x4.
Ride quality is about the same as my lifted Taco. Cabin noise is about the same as my truck was before the vent visors and light bar. Seats are still manual and seem to be kind of flat bottomed, but they are more comfortable on the knees because they are noticeably higher. Acceleration and braking seem decent, but it was raining so I didnt do anything that I wouldn't do in my my truck on a rainy day. Head room is nice with about 4" overhead.

It's DC, so I guess it's the norm. Surprising though, it probably won't be there in a week!

Had this done to me last yr. Quote was 2100 and the body shop did it for 900. Put 1200 in the bank.

Bull shit. Utter bull shit. After market modifications do NOT raise the value of the truck what so ever.

If someone wants to get nit picky you could say that it does for the perfect buyer and this is true but only for the perfect buyer and an individual would be beyond lucky to brake even on what they spent on mods with the "perfect buyer".

The reason why you see so many 3rd Gens on the lot is because of how poor the model is mechanically. Consumer Reports gave a Toyota shitty reliability ratings for the first time in a very long time with this truck. A lot of people are unhappy with it.

2006 is a frame rot year, just FYI. Also 17K seems way high.

Exactly. What do you expect the salesman to say? He sure isn't going to tell a prospective customer that people are having problems with them.

Don't believe me? Go to the third gen section and see what people are losing to get rid of theirs.

Got the truck back, again. New bumper reinforcement bar. They stripped the paint off of the area where the tear was, and brazed the tear shut then repainted the outside of the fender. After looking it over, I saw they didn't repainted the inside where they stripped the paint off and didnt tighten the bolts that hold the bottom of the bumper to the reinforcement bar. I had they tighten them get another guy to tighten the bolts and check over the others. I didnt feel like dealing with them to paint the inside of the fender, so I'm just going to clean and paint it when the rain stops.
Gonna talk to my insurance company about the issues to see if they want to take Clint Newell off their preferred shop list.

Agreed with you but I think Toyota is more likely to sell those to the idiot buyer who doesn't know any better and thinks cool, already modded truck...than to the "perfect buyer". But yea either way it's a crock of shit to say the mods add value
