    Hi All,

I have 3.73 gears, is it worth upgrading to 4.10 gears or just leave it and install a lunch-box locker and call it good.

4:10 isn't a big enough jump to worry about.

    4:56 if you're running 32-33 4:88 if you're 33-34, 35 recommended 5:29, 35+ recommend full ton axle swaps with SAS.

But really all depends on your needs and use case.

You don't really need to regear unless you off-road a lot and have 32" tires or larger, or are planning to go larger.

Also I would recommend you go with a selectable locker (like the ARB air lockers) rather than a "lunchbox" auto/posi-trac whatever.

I have 34" tires on stock 3.73 gears, manual trans helps a bit, around town it's no issue, off road I really wish I had 4:88's. It's in the plan but waiting for a few other things to settle before I start buying gears and air lockers.

Welcome to the Florida section of Tacoma World
You did not give much info of Your truck, lift? big tires? auto? 4cyl or 6cyl, the only thing I picked up on was the military hitch which indicates towing heavy weight. I don't know what or how Tundra Brakes relate to a second gen truck but would think this a better and safer investment. In agreement with Key, yes with bigger tires and lift regearing is the way to go, I went with 4:56 and tundra brakes, two of the best mods I have done to improve drivability on my 1st gen 2.7 auto.

For 2nd and 3rd gens there's the 2014 TRD Pro 4Runner brake upgrade, same concept as the TBU for 1st gens; take larger OEM brakes from a different model and install them on your truck as the spindles and lug spacing are the same.

The TRD Pro 4Runner brakes (must be from a Pro all others are the same size as the Tacoma) brakes require 17" wheels to clear. I did it on my truck with SS Braided crown lines, IMHO a required mod if you're armoring up or hauling/towing near capacity.

    HUGE improvement in brake performance.

I just got regeared on friday. best thing i've ever done to the truck. Ran 33's on stock gears and then went to 35's. gears made the truck incredible. zero regrets. went with 5.29's. the way it pulls inclines now is just incredible.

Southern Customs in Alachua. Great guys over there. Danny is their "gear guy" if you consider using them.
