I have a 2017 dcsb or. I absolutely love my truck.
But I have a problem, I currently drive 15 minutes to work, I'm looking at a new career that is an hour away. My truck can get 20 mpg on its best day. I'm debating if trading it in for a 4cy ac will get me much better mpgs.
I would also save a bit on trading to a 2016 I think (I have a bit of equity on my truck now).
Thoughts on this being a worth while trade?

You have one of the most reliable vehicles on the market, is it really worth a few miles per gallon? Jmo.

I get roughly 18mpg in my 4x2 DC 4 banger and I don’t drive aggressively. Stick with what you have. I’m about to make the almost exact opposite swap.

I know you are asking from an economic standpoint. All financial considerations aside, here’s my experience having owned (both 2017s) a 4cyl access cab, and a V6:
The 4cyl is like a different truck completely. The quirky transmission seems way less noticeable in the V6, in the 4cyl it was super annoying.
The power really feels non linear. I would say if you do go that route, get a M/T, or have the ECT on all the time.
Traded my sr, and never looked back.

Wow. Pretty unanimous! I didn't realize the mpgs were that bad in the 4cyl. I was hoping for 25mpg or better to make it worth it.
Guess I'll stay with what I love!

So, you go out to eat a little less, or something. Like the song says, “love will find a way”. Lol

You’ll be dead one day. Drive hat you want while your alive. The 4cyl is over worked and constantly keeping rpms up. That’s why the fuel economy isn’t much better.

I was going to say the same thing. if your staying in a Tacoma keep it. it wont make 2 mpg difference and your value will stay better over the long run in yours. Now if you need to save some money on fuel then make it something that gets 30 plus mpg average. I know so many that trade there trucks to commute then end up year later saying they cant stand the car and rather pay the extra for fuel.

If you need fuel economy get a small car but if you want a truck you’re gonna have to pay the price

A coworker once bought a nice motorcycle to save gas in his daily commute. It wasn't until he got turned into a pavement crayon that he realized it was a bad idea. I think by the time that was all done even with health insurance he could have put gas in his muscle car for 10 years.

Motorcycles are fun, but it only takes going down once to wipe out any savings

Not to mention, the guy is from CT. Any other idiots besides me tried riding a motorcycle in snow??

I commuted 100 miles round trip for 9 years. Then got smart and MOVED closer. Doesn’t matter if you get a GE vehicle. 2 hrs behind the wheel every day? ....gets old.
