this state + municipalities restrict CCW more than ever b4

tho lawful & without illegal intent there are many venues that wont allow CCW or Open Carry

    i conceal carry everywhere.

had one of those lock boxes with the steel cable that hooked around the seat. worst design flaw about it was that it took a key to lock/unlock. that's a death sentence waiting to happen. so i took it out.

An ammo can cable locked to the seat base meets the basic requirements for most states that care about such things. Glove box is hit or miss depending on the state, but I would hesitate putting my gun anywhere I might need access during a traffic stop, so if I kept my registration in the center console, that's not where the gun would be.

Those things are only good enough to "secure" a weapon in a vehicle when you're not in it. They are nearly useless if you need access to one when SHTF. Ideally each time you got into the vehicle, you removed the weapon from the box and secured it in your holster or other carrying method, and then only returned it to the lock box when absolutely necessary. I always suggest to people to also not advertise that you're a gun owner/enthusiast by putting SIG and Glock stickers all over your truck. This is just telling people to come break in.

The second one (behind the rear seat) listed here is a POS. I had one, installed and sent it back for a refund. The door itself is okay, the mounting system is flimsy metal and it would be very easy to break into.

This is an American Security handgun safe. It fit perfectly behind the rear seat in my tacoma.

About 1/2 second from the holster on my hip :D. But when I go somewhere where carrying firearms is prohibited my EDC is pretty secure in there.

Glove box all the way . looks like I’m the only one, but I can get to it quick and I don’t go places where people steal shyt for the most part. In those cases I’m taking it with me anyway

A simple lock box tethered to a hard point should be enough for smash and grab attempts.

The small cable lock vaults always struck me as the easiest to steal. A small pair a bolt cutters and its gone.

Get the safe. First, it probably cost much less than your pistol. Second, do you want to deal with the hassle of reporting a stolen handgun? Some states are not very understanding about those things. And third, while no safe is completely "safe", it will deter someone looking to snatch what they can and run.

Same ^. (For quick in/out @ post office, bank etc. subtle and fast is the way to go) I try real hard to make sure no one is watching and it's real easy to unholster > Glove box >lock. I have noticed a few times people get out of their car, openly lock up whatever in something. If I were a dirt bag thief that could get into a car reasonably fast I would be stalk parking areas around banks and post offices for easy picking.

ETA: I would LOVE one of those nice console vaults, but have not been able to free-up / stomach the $300 bones (Apparently I prefer to give all my free money to the Vet :)eek:) and other BS that always seems to come up

This is so true. I have to remind my wife of this when she "hides" her purse by opening the trunk or rear hatch and placing it back there. I'm like "babe, if anyone was watching you, they know exactly where to do go now". If I have to run into a federal building or something real fast, then I'll just discreetly put it in the console or glovebox. I don't ever store a firearm in my truck, it always comes in with me at night. I also use my center console to hold a variety of different supplies. I don't want to ruin that space by putting a safe there. That's just me though.
