Did the floorboard in the passenger side get pushed in to the cab?

First things first-thankfully all involved are OK physically. As far as I know every state has different laws regulating when an insurance company totals a vehicle. In my state, Maryland, a vehicle is considered a ''total loss'' when the repair costs are 75% or more of the vehicles actual replacement value. Last time I had to look into the laws it seemed to me most states were right around that percentage. I am by no means an expert but I'd guess you have well over $20,000 in damages when you factor in the air bag deployment. So get the body shop estimate and learn your states law.

@Norsemanvike good question.... I had my adaptive cruise set on the most distance (i.e. 3 bars) spacing between car ahead of me.... this happened so fast i’m I think it went from cruise to me manually braking very quickly so not sure the adaptive was too helpful.... or the automatic braking for that matter as I pretty quickly went to full brake / skid / swerve mode *I think*. Other times though I feel that radar cruise has been very helpful in keeping me at a safe distance during interstate drives, avoid creeping up too quickly on slow vehicles, etc.... all in all I was pretty impressed with the TSS features, though I expected to only be annoyed by them, I think it will be hard to go back

@windsor I think I’ll do the same color, “Cement” unless someone wants to convince me otherwise lol!!?? I don’t hate any of the colors, really, but live in the desert so went with something lighter than darker.

@ceng I’m not sure, you might be seeing the hood or the airbag, I think I remember the floorboard being in tact when I was unloading my gear before they towed it... was a little out of it though so who knows lol

@OuTRDLimits Thanks for this advice and details regarding state laws and such, I’ll have to make sure I know the rules here before accepting any insurance decisions, etc.

Totaled while on vacation in Santa Fe, NM. The truck was parked. Eight months old and 13K miles. The frame was bent. MSRP was $42,000. I paid $39,000 plus tax and tag. After a week of negotiating with the insurance company I got $34,500. That was $2,100 more than their original offer. I sent them a copy of the window sticker but they based their settlement on comps in the area that disclosed the bottom dollar a dealer would take for their trucks. 87868991-DE5A-4A05-9156-21DB29E9D004.jpg

THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who’s voted, commented, provided advice or expertise, shared their similar experiences, and/or given me a good laugh so far on this thread... and THANKS to all of you who wished me well and reminded me the most important thing is that nobody was badly hurt and the truck’s safety features did an incredible job, as did those in the other vehicle I impacted.

As much as I value the incredible longevity and practicality (and style!) that well-maintained older vehicles can have (especially Tacos!)... it’s amazing to read about (and now experience firsthand) just how much safer newer vehicles have become, with clear data revealing that bad injuries and deaths from auto accidents have been in rapid decline the past decade due to improved vehicle safety features. I’m not risk averse, but prefer to take risks to my health and safety in other pursuits besides getting to and from the mountains and canyons I work and play in! So, FWIW.... as much as I was on the fence about the financial hurdle and the environmental impacts of upgrading to a 3rd Gen, I can say that I’m extremely grateful I was able to upgrade and be driving the 2019 “New Trucky” when this happened versus my trusty 2005 (no offense “Trucky”, I still love you so much!!).

I’ll post an update once I find out how this is all going to proceed with the insurance companies, etc... and hopefully, eventually, pics of a new truck build, fingers crossed!

    Happy Holidays Ya’ll!!

@OkieCowboy Uggg... that’s insane they wouldn’t give you more than that, I’m sorry! Fingers crossed I’ll fare better, but I’ll try to prepare myself for this type of outcome and what ways I might be able to fight it, etc.

Glad you are ok. You want them to total your truck, it will never be right after the repairs !! If it's repaired, the carfax report will follow that truck forever and it's resale value is done.
