Is my 2wd TRD sport destined to just be a mall crawler?

I see alot of jeeps/tacomas/4runners with bumpers winches and all the do dads flying down gravel forrest service roads while I'm going to hunting and fishing spots with my dad in his 1st gen 5 lug. Most of these places dont really have anywhere I've seen that you would need a 4x4 to get to, there might be a mud hole but you can almost always drive around it.
The tricked out 4x4 people are actually kind of annoying with how fast they drive through there since the roads are normally only like 1 or 1.5 lanes wide and have blind or switchback curves.

I for one do not like to party. I sit my ass at home, stare out the window and decide which neighbor I'm going to complain about on the Nextdoor app tonight.

Then I'm gonna get trashed and prank call a bunch of hookers.

They tend to get really pissed when i ask if they'll pick up my PeiWei carry out order. I mean, if I'm paying a door dash service charge anyway, might as well get my money's worth. Get a quick handy in while I enjoy my Thai Dynamite chicken.

In my opinion all trucks/suvs should be 4x4 but I live in the snow

You know, it's funny. The go fast vs go slow, rocks vs mud vs sand stuff has been going on since the first auto drove down the dirt trails. Nothing has been settled, and it never will be. Everyone does things their own way and that's as it should be. So, we could just save band width and agree to disagree.

You don't need 4x4 until you do... I use 4 hi once every few weeks on gravel forrest roads (i dont need to, it just corners better in loose gravel and mud) and 4 lo 3-4 times per year when it snows or on the beach.

Since the beginning of time people have tried to dilute extremely important internet threads with relativistic inclusivity. I won’t have it.

But we can all agree that the early adopters’ rides need to be shot to hell though, perhaps. I can just see that old timer’s ghost shaking his head when you tell him he can’t possibly off-road in his 2wd rum runner.

I see the fun in both. The going fast is fun because duh. The other fun is being on a narrow trail, bad angle, warning lights and "low oil, shut off engine" messages coming up. Pucker factor makes the beer taste better when/if ya get back

I think you have a good truck. You have superior payload, towing and MPG over a 4x4. Most fire roads and graded dirt roads do not require 4x4.

Wow, never heard this discussion on here before.....

When you can't go fast, you need 4 wheel drive. Tight up hill turn in sand.

4wd components are not only additional weight, they are additional rotational weight. Even when 4wd isn't engaged, you are spinning more weight. It's not horrible but if you test the same truck back to back the 2wd is just quicker and easier to maneuver around than the 4x4 in 2wd mode. Maybe it's the gyroscopic effect in addition to the weight .

True True, but if you driving a 2wd you shouldn't be putting yourself in that position in the first place. Just like anything off road, you have to choose your line correctly, but even then shit happens.

Same here. Try towing a snowmobile trailer uphill on an unplowed road with a 2wd. It's also how I justified the OR, for the locker, in my simple head. Despite the chances of it ever leaving the pavement are slim. Have a SxS for offroad fun.

It's normal to get up North and see this. Had to take the sleds and beat down a path for the truck to even be able to get in without a trailer.

Yeah, I basically never tow a snowmobile trailer uphill on an unplowed road in 2wd so I can’t confirm or deny.
