Trying to get an ac guy to look at it this week but could use some help in the meantime.

When I bought the truck ac was not blowing cold at all, but clutch would kick in (rpm change at idle when turning ac switch on/off).

    It was quiet.

Hooked up a can of refrigerant. Reading was very low, less than 10psi. Gave it about 1sec squeeze and immediately compressor started sounding like shit - see video.

There’s a low pressure switch in the compressor, right? So it probably kicked on for the first time when I added refrigerant? I thought that if the clutch was on the compressor was on but maybe I’m wrong about that.

I know overfilling is an issue and can make the compressor run poorly but Im almost certain I didn’t overfill - put in like 2 seconds worth, well under 1/4 can of the smallest size can. It is now pushing some reasonably cool air. I intentionally undercharged it for now until I can get a proper service.

If I get a tech to charge the system and add oil is there a chance it will run ok or is this like damn that sounds so bad that I might as well skip the charge and just put that money into a new compressor?
