Advice from somebody who lives in the heart of the rust belt. There's nothing you can really do to stop it. Can you slow it down a bit? Maybe - by totally dousing it with Fluid Film of something similar. The problem is that the worst rust is in the hardest to see and get to places. Sadly, she's all done.

.....it is thousands of pounds of moving steel, aluminum, plastic, tubber.....and at times, i'd imagine at speeds in excess of 60 miles an hour, and with human lives being a consideration, and including those of others......and based on where the visible holes are, and the paper thin steel extending away from that more center hole.....that looks like more that half of that section of the frame and its structural integrity, is compromised in that area, and perhaps others....

...not trying to be dramatic, just thinking out loud with my first thought when I saw your post.

You’re welcome. Also, you might want to LIGHTLY tap around your frame with a ball peen hammer to see the extent of the rust. Good luck!

I was rear-ended a few days ago. The damage wasn't bad but do you think that contributed to the frame rust becoming a hole? If so, I might go through insurance.

It might have "contributed" by shaking an area of scale off the frame - exposing a hole. Your insurance company will call that a "pre-existing condition."

It's seriously like hitting the lottery; I would rather keep putting money into this truck than have payments at today's interest rates!

I got quoted between $4000 -$7500. Carmax offered me $7800 with the rust. What do you think is a good price to have it fixed?

Did you go through the class action settlement or did you pay for it yourself? How much was the frame?

The Toyota dealer inspected my truck and determined the frame qualified for replacement; Toyota paid for everything, so I was I was part of the class action settlement.

OP, your window closed in ~2021 (2009 + 12 years). Unfortunately you can forget about Toyota doing anything for you. That frame could last a while, or snap tomorrow in a bad enough pot hole. Once you clean up the rust down to good metal the patch size will probably be larger then you think. And it's probably not the only spot, just the one you found. I would take the $7800.
