Is my Front supposed to make this Clank sound?

I bought this 2015 PreRunner used at 78K miles. Brought it to pothole riddled NYC, where I now do my best to take care of the truck.

I notice my truck makes this Clank sound in the front when going over speed bumps in the more residential parts of the city. Is it normal? Do bolts need to be re-tightened? Or is my axles need changing?

It’s the bushing sleeve(s) on the lower shock causing the click. Drove me nuts for years until I came across the original thread. I then started to help the TW hometowns out further.

Now if you’re going to do this, do this right as YOU HAVE TO remove the old shock bushing when putting in the bolts with the longer shoulder. This is where those that said it didn’t work, ended up with bad results. The bushing(s) appears good, but it is not.

And I highly recommend using the former aftermarket bolt as the shoulder is longer than the 4R’s.

I have been wheeling like crazy since May 4th 2023 and have not heard that click once.

I already have the bolt, washer and nut already bookmarked and ready to order. However, I'm having a hard time finding the exact bushing sleeve for the lower shock.
I found the detailed diagram from Toyota, and has it labeled here as no. 8. However, it's left as unlisted (tears). What is it called exactly? Because all my searches end up with $100+ 'bushings' that don't seem right to me.

That I wouldn’t know. Do you have a suspension shop near you?

 

I don't think so, here in NYC. Besides, I do most things on my own since the local dealership here in NYC price gouges like crazy.
Found a video where a guy addresses the same part and he recreates almost the same noise I hear (minus the squeaking, mine is not THAT horrible, lol)

 

Hear hear. Once you fix it, it’s going to bring back your happy side driving experience all over again. Alls you will hear is rubber contact. Good stuff.

 

After struggling and wrestling with a ball joint press tool, my Dad and I finally managed to get them in. Happy that my front struts no longer make that clicking noise

Did you ever get a confirmation on the bushing? Which one to replace it with? I'm beyond excited to find out that this click is a common problem that has been fixed. It's been driving me nuts on mine for months...

 

The bushing I bought from Amazon turned out to be the correct ones: from Moog.
They worked perfectly fine. Nothing fancy and they seem pretty close the original OEM bushings (rubber encased between two metallic sleeves).

Moog's bushings together with the bigger bolts turned out to be perfect.

I'll link all the materials I used along with the things my Dad and I did step by step, so everyone can see later on.
Not now though, because I'm sore as hell after all that pressing, lol.

bushings are actually from Moog, and are exactly what fitted and worked well for me. Pretty much the same as OEM original parts.
I ordered a pair, since it made sense to just replace both front bushings in one day anyways.

The clicking noise is back but this time from the rear passenger side (under leaf springs).

I thought it was my improperly fighting the lug nuts after a typical tire rotation... But the clicking persists.

I'm pretty sure that it's this bushing:

Was the bushing toast on the shock?

 

For most folks, when that bushing goes on a shock, the shock is also probably worn out. So, why take the time and trouble to replace the bushing when a new shock comes with a new bushing? How many miles on your shocks?

 

That will make a different sound that whats in the video you shared a year ago. When that bushing goes it's more of a knock sound, like someone is lightly tapping a wrench against the frame. You've got some creak in your sound, assuming it's still the same sound. Which is usually from either the leaf springs bushings, the u-bolts, or the top hat in the front shocks. In rare cases it can also be the aluminum front bumper, or the rad support bushings.

Easy test though, remove the shock and go for a quick drive to see if the noise is gone. Rear shocks are super easy and quick to remove.

 

It's a very light tapping sound. It's not annoying enough to worry too much about, and suspension still seems to be doing its job.

 

It is a lighter sound compared to the old video, but coming from the passenger rear side. It's not as loud, and suspension seems to be functioning fine despite all the bumps and cracks on our city roads.
Maybe not much of a worry for now, perhaps I'll change the whole suspension later (Bilstein, conservative lift) if other sounds continue to pop up.
