As you can see this is what I am dealing with. The tank is against the frame, all of the cushions are in the correct location. Any ideas to help me finish this up?

Your right there,,the rubber cushion is holding you back it seems.

You have a long pin punch?

Run/pull that pin backwards a bit,,but not all the way out. Reach up with the pin punch and use it to align/lever that strap opening to alignment on the bracket by sticking it thru the bracket and into the end of the the strap pin hole.

You will want to tease the strap pin in, till it butts the pin punch, then work the pin punch all the way out with the strap pin and it should align and go thru. Go slow,, you might have to wiggle the pin punch back as you wiggle the strap pin thru.

Your using the pin punch as a alignment tool as the pin gets worked thru the bracket. The strap pin is going thru as the pin punch gets pulled back worked out. They are working as a team to align the strap pin and strap and get it thru the bracket.

    Savvy?

Good Idea! I actually got the side pictured to work. I just loosened the bolt holding the other end to the frame and it gave me some room.

I may need to use that trick on the other side though, it is being really stubborn too! You would think they would make these straps adjustable like the tensioners on the motor...

I think they purposely did not have adjustable straps so they couldn't be over tightened and crush something. Older other rigs usually have adjustable straps. They worked in a really tight fit so things couldn't move, especially on 4x4's. Makes it a pain in the ass when working on them, but they shouldn't work loose after install.

Before the final tightening, make sure the pads are in place and everything is lined back up and tightened as it should be, you don't want to rub a hole in the tank by fudging something to look good and hurrying up the process.

A stream of gas dribbling along with a bum throwing a lit match as you drive by results in a very bad day. lol.
