Actually, the witnesses told me the guy was loaded, and swerving all over the place and that he drove into me at around 40mph. While I getting myself together, he took off and I didn't see him. Thankfully the cops got him a couple of miles down the road. Surprisingly, the cops told me the guy was diabetic and something had happened with his insulin pump.

A diabetic emergency looks very similar to being under the influence of alcohol. Sorry about your truck OP.

There are almost as many "is it totaled" threads here as there are oil change threads. The bottom line is that the only person who can really answer your question is your insurance adjuster. Glad you are OK, that is the most important thing

Yikes!!! When my whole situation happened, I was hoping it was totalled cause I knew it would never be the same.

When I went to the Toyota collision center I even pushed to have every little thing looked at and they found more damage than initially thought. Mine quoted ~$14,000 to fix, so that’s why the insurance company just paid me $21k for it, then they probably auctioned my truck off for ~$9k (since that was the buyback price I was quoted), so for the insurance company, instead of costing them ~$14k, it costs them ~$11k. Not to mention the risk of any other repairs that would have been found and rental cost if they went ahead and repaired it.

Need of frame replacement does NOT equal totaled. It depends on his insurance company, or yours if he's under-insured. The repair bill for mine was about $22k, plus 3 months worth of rentals. I had 5k miles at the time of accident, just passed 16k on the clock last week.

Likewise with my 2007. They used a 5 point frame machine and a large hammer. No heat either. When done and when painted, I could not tell where it had been bent.

Hey, guys! I have an update of sorts:

I tried to get a shop to look at my vehicle. One told me that I'd need a new frame, bed, bumper, a few other things, and that it was too big of a job for their shop. So they didn't even submit any official anything. Other shops told me they couldn't even inspect the truck until February. I called the insurance company and they'll send a guy too my house to check it out.

The insurance company already said he was at fault, but what I want to know is if there is anything I should do before the insurance guy gets here, or anything I shouldn't do while he is here, inspecting my truck?

I just want my truck replaced. As far as I understand it, since the accident wasn't my fault, his insurance *should* pay to replace my truck, and I don't want them to weasel out of it.

Same exact incident happened to a coworker of mine. Insurance company did not salvage it. They bought him a new frame, insane right?!?!!?

Open a claim with your insurance, they'll get reimbursed from his company. This way you'll get the job done right and within a reasonable time.

Oh dude, you’re going through the other guys insurance company?

Yikes that’s a mistake. They’ll delay and delay since they don’t want to pay out.

Always go through your insurance company. Let them deal with that other company.

    YES!
that's one of the biggest reasons you pay them!
he's right, the other party's insurance is going to drag your ass out to the bitter end.

    @Spankomatik

This is the way. You pay your insurance company for a service. Trust me they are the only ones possibly on your side, they speak the language and know how to get you a fairer price than the at faults party insurance company. The at fault insurance it trying to get out of this for a little as possible.

Keep in contact with your insurance and have them have estimates of similar vehicles sold on hand for when the offer comes.

the moment the frame is touched, is totalled. my sister had a 15 corolla in 2018 that some old dude clipped the driver side fender. and when the inspector when to check he saw that the frame rails had buckle and wrote the car off.
