As a tech typically you try to cut the time in half. If it pays 1.0hr to take a door apart, you need to do it in .5. If it takes you 2.0 to do it, you still get paid 1.0

I’m sensing some sarcasm... Like I said I understand how techs get paid, 3 hour book time? Do it in an hour get paid 3... have a hard time and it’s a pain in the ass and you takes 5? Still get paid 3.

I’m just pointing out that folks aside from me you or most people on this sub might not get how book hours work. I personally don’t give a shit if a tech gets my 1.5 hour job done in 30 minutes on my truck. I’m gonna shake his hand pay him his money and ask what he likes to drink so I can pick it up as a tip for getting me off the lobby couches so soon.

Just pointing out it’s not the norm in most trade professions by my understanding.

Not sarcasm in this case. I don’t disagree. I was just making fun of the “tech efficiency”.

On my work orders there’s a tab to look at my production percentage next to book time (it’s in the program, we’re not flat rate) And then there’s admin’s opinion in the matter. I’ve been on both sides, as a foreman and a union tech. It’s just comical to me.

There is no such law. Laws are written by the State, not an insurance co. Insurance co. may have a clause stating that they'll pay for an aftermarket or reman part. The bottom line is an insurance co must make you "whole", meaning that they have to bring your vehicle to a pre-collision condition. If the aftermarket part does not meet those requirements then you as a consumer have a right to request the part that DOES. As most of us know those aftermarket parts practically don't exist.

Something I never knew until recently is that you can file a depreciation claim. For instance I had a friend that got rear ended in his 2018 Tacoma...the insurance company paid to get his truck fixed and then he submitted another claim to the insurance which was a depreciation claim that reimbursed him for the reduction in value of his truck. Just an FYI if you get into an accident.

I got t-boned last year in my 2012 Tacoma dbl cab 4cyl.The adjuster estimated $8,000 damage.Said my frame was bent and listed alot of shit to change. The insurance company estimated my truck to be worth $16,000 "rounded off numbers not exact".So they totaled it because the damage was over half of the trucks value.I owed $9,500 left on my loan. After my loan was paid off I had the option to buy it back.Or they would pay me the salvage fee that the auction would give them.Unbelievable but true once they deducted the salvage fee.I was able to keep it and they PAID ME $543 and I kept it.Come to find out the adjuster was full of shit.I had no frame damage it was one of my leaf spring hangers that was bent.Honest to God true story.I'll try and find some pictures.

I meant to say there is no law that requires insurance to use oem parts. If am parts are available insurance will state they will warrantee those parts for life assuming of course they look like original part and if it’s sheet metal they will get them capa or nsf certified and state that they meet or exceed factory safety test. Yes you sometimes can see a very insignificant difference on some parts but for most part it’s not that easy to proof that they don’t meet oem specifications, especially if we are talking about radiators core support clips etc.

Likewise I can’t tolarate and or remotely trust the “experts” when they tell me it takes 50 hrs to replace a wire harness. This industry is a two way street don’t act like you know this side of business because you don’t.

Wrong. I’m saying that if I’m paying you 7 hrs knowing it’s realistically a 2 hr dent you’d better kiss me in the ass and thank me instead of asking for more time

I doubt you can do my job. But I don’t need to do yours to know when something that gets qouted is bull shit. You are just one tech and I deal with hundreds of them and you guys are all over the chart. The fair thing to do is pay the median time since there isn’t a time study per se. Or perhaps you need to tape yourself doing the work and provide the time study to the next insurance guy lol.

Also, I don’t deal with insurance people. I was talking about desk people.

And I am on camera every moment I’m on the floor.

I would have no problems negotiating a favorable payment for both parties with you than. Most guys would pull out time out of their butt with not evidence or reason to stand behind the time they are charging thus the frustration. For me to be able to pay something that appears to be high in charges I need more help from the shop than “well you do it then” desk people are the worse I hate the fact we even have those positions. Most of them never changed a spare tire on their car and yet they tell you what you must do. A no no. Respect is earned not demanded.
