Glad to hear everyone made it out OK.

4 days deep... what an introduction to the capabilities of a Tacoma! Makes me want to go out to the parking lot an give my truck a big hug!

Glad you guys are okay. That dash cam is awesome!! I felt like I was in the back seat and felt the impact while watching that. I think I'm going to call in sick tomorrow, my back is now hurting from watching that.haha

First off, welcome and happy to hear everyone is OK.

Second, holy god man, you have GOT to give us the specs on that dashcam!

Third...seeing the impact and the still pics...DAMN those guys at Toyota can engineer a truck. I don't know if it is 'totalled' or "OMFG TOTOALLED", but either way, how cow what a sight to see. I'd do anything possible to total it and buy another. The shot that thing took, as well made as they are, I have a tough time believing she'd ever drive the same again.

    Thank you.

I went with a friend up Silverado Canyon and up Maple Springs. It was just an easy outing for me to test out all the 4x4 off-road features on the truck.

This is the last picture of the truck with its good right side. Taken just a few hours before the crash.

No, I didn't buy gap insurance for it. That's the least of my worries now.

    Ouch.

That's one thing the wife and I insist the dealer throw in as part of the deal. ANY deal. We actually drove off the lot before the 'manager' got the 'regional manager' to OK adding it to the existing offer and called our cell to turn around and come back when we bought her Altima.

I don't roll without gap coverage. I know a girl at an old job, her son bought a new S-10, signed the paperwork, and was driving it home the first time when a drunk ran a stoplight and t-boned him. Totalled the truck and messed the boy up somethin' fierce.

The horror stories he told about that later were pretty awful. Lesson I don't care to take a chance on!

Higher down payments negates the need for gap.

Holy chit!!! I'm glad you and your family are ok. The Tacoma stood solid on impact, and that crazy b**** was going fast!

Did you ever figure out why she was running from the cops? She busted out of that window like a bat outta hell...it must've been bad. I think she left a passenger in the car, too...

It's a Blackvue DR500GW-HD model. It can record up to 1080p, has WiFi so you can view and set up the camera on your mobile device. It has built-in GPS so it can record speed and route for back tracking. It runs on any 12v power source (switched or constant). Plug it in a 12v outlet and forget it. It's on when you turn on the ignition and records continuously into a micro SD card. It does loop recording so the old files just get overwritten. I use it for recording at race tracks, for recording of off-road outings, vacation video, insurance evidence.....etc. The mounting base is 3M taped to the windshield. I just buy extra mounting base and power cord to put in each car, and just move the unit over, so you don't need to spend $300 for each car.

The main difference between these dashcams and the GoPro is the ability to record continuously without having to change the memory card. You also don't have to press the on/off button.

    Qft.

Still though seeing that makes me proud to own a Tacoma. I like its safety features and now this video just reinforces what I already thought.

I also like to record my driving incase of accidents. I don't have a dash cam so I use my phones camera with a dash phone holder. But I always get lazy to record and delete and it drains the battery and gets too hot. I will need to buy a dash cam that overwrites the memory and records when I turn on the truck.
