Fix it and trade it in or sell it.

It means to sell or trade in the truck fast even if you dont get what its worth and then you are glad it's gone .

I would get rid of it after its fixed, my old 2000 Tacoma got smashed up bad and had considerable frame damage that they repaired, truck never rode, drove, or felt the same afterwards.

I doubt it. The insurance company will look at the current retail value of your truck they must pay you. If it's greater than what the repair cost OR what they can get for parts/salvage, they'll fix it. This is one reason people shouldn't overlook resale value. If a 5 year old Tacoma is worth $20K and a 5 year Colorado is worth $15K and both have identical damage, the insurance might total the Colorado where the Tacoma gets fixed. On the other hand, if they can get good money out of quality Tacoma salvage parts but the Colorado parts are worthless, they might total the Tacoma and fix the Colorado. Insurance is a scam for the insured.

One more thing. I've had great repairs even on a hard t-bone hit. Find the local Maserati, Ferrari, Bentley, Lotus, etc. importer/dealer in your city. Call them and ask who they have fix cars damaged on their property. They will be quality. You have the legal right to use whatever shop you want. Use the one that the high-end guys use. You won't be disappointed.

My first 3rd gen had more damage... Not shown in this picture But the side was smashed up some too... But they said the ONLY reason they totaled it was because ALL of the airbags went off... Had the airbags not deployed it would of been fixed.

I was glad it was totaled. I hadn't made the first payment yet and was not at fault for the accident. Didn't want a crash victim with a lower resale value right from the start.

I've been through a few 3rd gens lol

Tacoma is mostly stock, the WRX isn't.
In December 2013, I hit a large bear in my 2005 Tacoma. Hit it dead center, set off my airbag, wrecked the grill, bumper and hood. Pushed the radiator back to where it touched the fan. Fenders were OK except they were pushed back to contact the doors on both sides. I thought it was totalled for sure, 8 year old truck with almost 130,000 miles. AAA paid for the fix, though. I pushed for it, the adjuster asked me what I wanted to do as it could have gone either way. I immediately knew by looking at that the truck was still good. No damage to the motor or suspension, aside from the fan clutch. Book value on the truck was lower than resale at the time and the 4 cylinder, 5 speed 4x4 was a bit hard to find. It's now at 195,000 miles and the only thing I can find on it that still shows it was wrecked is a couple of wrinkles under the battery you can only see if you lay under the truck and look at just the right angle. If your insurance gives you the option of using a Toyota dealer for the body work, I would look into it. Mine charges parts as aftermarket but uses genuine Toyota for insurance work.

The problem with high end shops is they may restore it to a better than factory condition, lol.

I think some people around here are just unlucky or expect a truck to act like a race car... I've had a few as you can see... Both 4cyl and 6cyl. Both long bed and short bed... Both 2wd and 4x4....

I've had absolutely no real issues with any of them at all. One was totaled. One the dealership tried screwing me on the price so i returned it... One i had over a year and then decided i really wanted a 4wd so i traded it in... But no issues with the transmissions in any of them, no mechanical issues... Nothing.. I keep going back because the trucks are great. At any point i could of switched brands but there was no need.

Only issue i really had was squeaky leaf springs, but the dealership installed silencers for free and they never squeaked again.

I've owned jeep, Chevy, and Toyota in the past.. I don't expect a truck to drive or act like a little race car, and i understand its limitations, but the benefits far exceed them for me.

That sounds sarcasm right? These brakes suck compared to many others I’ve used. I find myself having to really mash down to come to a quick stop which leaves a lot of jerking.

I’ve had to go from about 80 to 20 in my explorer and had less front end roll than the taco does from 50 to 30.

I don't think anyone here is advocating for this, but years ago it meant selling it to some unsuspecting buyer.

Even then, the frame replacement is $13k even with damages it wont be near the $30k+ mark required to total out.

Sorry for your troubles dude. Wrecks are such an inconvenience!

Judging from the pics, your frame should be fine. Hopefully your insurance woes are as little as possible. Good luck!
