Is my timing chain set up right?

    I'm not sure of its original position. But the camshaft doesn't slide in anymore. Its tight now

    You will need to get that pin out, to put back in the cam. Or at minimum to find a properly sized replacement pin.

    Standard Motor Products makes excellent intake cam gears (on RockAuto), if you don't want to purchase a new OEM one.

    Is there even a pin in the cam, or is that just the recess for the pin? Hard to tell.in the photos.

    Looks like you could pop it out then, and possible reassemble correctly.

    that was a smaller hole. the pin is probably damaged. Can I get a new dowel pin from any machine shop?

    That pin is a harder material than the aluminum it was going into. It maaaaay be fine. But you need to check it.

    I agree. There is nothing wrong with admitting you did something wrong.
    I’d rather people learn from MY mistakes.

    As for timing jobs.
    The one that gave me the most trouble was a Honda B18.
    That’s SOB would jump one tooth when ever you started the car.
    Never jumped a tooth when barring it over by hand.

    3 times we set that bastard. Finally set it one tooth advance and it was good.
    Don’t know why it did it. But that “fixed” the problem.

    I was expecting it to jump time again at some point.
    Made it 3 month with no issues. Then my buddy joined the navy and sold the car.
    No idea after that…..

    It was damaged a bit when I first installed it. Key was not in slot perfectly and one side was pushed out, but it did works it way back. I never had a problem with it. Might just get a new one
