Canada has two official languages , French and English , in Quebec it is predominantly French , their signage is in French first , has been like that for 2 decades , do try to keep up

    In a sort , yes

All products for sale in Canada have both French and English on them .

Signage in English speaking Canada is usually limited to English except for government buildings or other official buildings

From the Gov of Canada website regarding packaging and labelling :

    2.1.1 Definition

Section 10 Act Section 30 Regulations

The product indentity declaration is a statement of the product's common or generic name, or it may be defined in terms of its function.

    2.1.2 Language

    Subsection 6(2) Regulations

The product identity must be shown in English and French. In some cases a product identity declaration is bilingual in and of itself, such as "cologne" or "serviettes".

sounds like some companies are turned off by this "law" in Quebec because of trademark concerns...

i wonder why this issue is just coming to light... wouldn't they have been told the law when building permits were issued?... i.e. this just seems like a zoning regulation issue...

The provincial government has just changed , from the Liberal Party to the Parti Quebecois , the PQ is more Francophone rights oriented

...so these companies have been operating there for a while, ...and now all of a sudden these PQ folks come storming in telling them to change their brand/signage?.. what if these companies decide to just close down and leave Quebec?... wouldn't that be hurtful to local economies?
